About the Team :
The Grocery Outlet Recruiting & Training team is tasked with hiring and developing Aspiring Operator Trainees (AOTs). Our AOT’s are the crucial pipeline of Independent Store Owners.
We have a very rigorous selection and development approach, accomplished by robust sourcing and assessment, facilitating scalable learning and development, cultivating and communicating best practices and leveraging our unique culture.
Our goal is to serve the AOT and Operator communities with integrity and accuracy while focusing on continual improvement, collaboration and FUN! The recruiting team is responsible for finding candidates who have a passion for grocery retail and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The team fully educates AOT Candidates on the realities of Owning / Operating a Grocery Outlet store successfully, facilitates the relationship between AOTs and their Training Store Operators, provides an opportunity for families to build a business together, and foster the continuing development of an exceptional Operator network.
Our training team develops blended training programs includes operator / mentor-lead in store immersion, classroom-based instructor lead facilitation with on-line supplemental learning.
Training focuses on developing business acumen, along with leadership, merchandising, and marketing skills.
About the Role :
The Transition Coach is responsible for the smooth transition of Aspiring Operators in Training (AOT) to become self-reliant Independent Operators.
The Transition Coach position is designed to optimize Independent Operator success by assessing capabilities and fulfilling any remaining learning gaps once an AOT is selected for a store.
Additionally, the Transition Coach is responsible for assisting in establishing appropriate store systems at business startup while supporting the new Operator’s efforts with store appearance, operational issues, marketing, and merchandising.
The Transition Coach reports to the Director, Store Transitions.
Competencies
Assessing Operator Readiness : Actively evaluate and support the progress and achievement of each Operator’s readiness to succeed in owning and running their own store.
Conduct AOT assessments and partner with TSOs for continuous feedback.
- Coaching & Developing Others : Investing time, resources, and care to build a trusting relationship focused on developing the Operator’s ability to be operationally ready and sustain long-term success.
- Influencing as a Trusted Partner : Gaining the trust of another through personal expertise, care, and consistency to help them make great decisions for the team, department, and GOI.
- Promoting GOI’s Mission : Being an active ambassador and advocate of GOI’s mission, business model, and brand with AOTs, operators, employees, partners, and customers.
- Running a Business Competency : Demonstrates the financial acumen and decision making to achieve and sustain operational excellence for a store.
You will provide coaching, support, and assess while documenting progress at key points of the Operator's first-year. You will also assist with the implementation of the following systems and processes :
- Use of Point of Sale systems
- General office procedures, including cash flow management, record retention, employment regulations, and cash control
- Inventory control procedures, including policies and systems related to inventory adjustments (markdowns, price changes, throwaways, over and short reporting), internal and external theft controls
- Physical inventory preparation and inventory receiving procedures, including the use of RF scanning equipment, route deliveries, and inventory adjustments
- Ordering for optimal product assortment and inventory level to maximize sales
- Merchandising standards, including Adherence to GOI’s freshness standards
- Business management practices
- Financial acumen
- Leadership and employee relations
- Labor scheduling and allocation
- Coaching best training practices
- In-store, local marketing, social media, digital advertising, and community involvement

About the Pay :
- Base Salary Range : $75,000
- 401(k) Profit Sharing

- Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.
About you :
- Minimum of five years owner / store operator(preferred) or store manager experience
- Proven P &L budgeting, business, and financial acumen skills
- Positive attitude
- Strong office and bookkeeping systems knowledge

- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
