As a Sr Systems Integration Engineer, you will join our Systems Engineering team and directly report to the Director of Engineering for New Product Development.
Your role is pivotal in leading design initiatives to develop innovative hardware, fluidics, and electronics. You will also integrate these technologies with reagents and algorithms to produce world-class instruments.
Responsibilities :
- Craft and implement the strategy, architecture, and codebase that govern the hardware control logic and workflows (both manual and automated) of our new instruments.
- Lead the assessment of system performance, including speed and throughput, and pinpoint the underlying causes of system-level issues, such as latencies and conflicts among Hardware, Firmware, Software, and Reagents.
- Actively participate in DFMEA, risk management, and hazard assessment sessions. Collaborate with Engineering and Systems teams to analyze session outputs, identify potential issues, and devise hardware, firmware, and software solutions to mitigate risks.
- Enhance system architecture and module interdependencies. Develop comprehensive scripting and programming strategies for event management, error reporting, system recovery, and telemetry data collection and analysis, in collaboration with firmware and software engineering teams.
Ensure high-quality technical documentation is maintained to facilitate seamless transitions to Manufacturing and Global Support.
Design validation plans and conduct extensive testing of complex modules and systems, ensuring seamless integration from hardware components to user interfaces, and overall functionality.
Essential Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of direct work experience, or Master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Expertise in the design, development, testing, and maturation of systems for Medical Diagnostics, Life Sciences, Analytical Science, or Scientific Instrumentation, involving a complex integration of fluidics, electro-mechanical and optical hardware, electronics, firmware, and embedded computing.
- Comprehensive understanding of system architecture, sub-system dependencies, and risk management related to instrument control logic, dynamic time allocation, hardware synchronization, and resource sharing.
- Extensive experience in the development and deployment of systems architecture and strategies for event logging, fault prevention, error reporting, user messaging, system recovery, and resolution.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Visual Studio, C#, C++, Python), hardware testing, troubleshooting, simulation, data processing (e.
g., MATLAB, Mathcad), root cause analysis, and performance reporting.
Desirable Skills :
- Experience with fluidics, precision liquid handling, automation, and related hardware and sensors.
- Familiarity with Agile methodology, and proven ability to manage integration tests, risk retirement, and characterization activities under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of statistical data analysis and software (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Excel statistics macros).
Candidates who demonstrate a strong ability to apply engineering principles to solve technical problems and improve processes will find this role particularly rewarding.
