We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with 10+ years of experience in Microsoft Access and cloud-native SQL to lead the migration of legacy Access databases into modern, high-performance SQL platforms. This role will work closely with program users to analyze existing data structures, design and execute schema transformations, ETL pipelines, validation checks, and cut-over plans, and guide stakeholders through a seamless data transition.
Responsibilities
- Enter codes to create production database and monitor database performance, including distribution of records and memory usage.
- Direct programmers and analysts to modify the database management system and review / correct programs.
- Answer user questions and confer with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and costs.
- Modify database programs to improve processing performance (performance tuning).
- Provide assistance in planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems; ensure design phases align with database environment parameters.
- Evaluate user requests for new data elements and systems; incorporate into the shared data environment; provide technical assistance.
- Coordinate data use to ensure data integrity and control redundancy; load / reorganize databases as needed.
- Perform data modeling, prototyping, and both logical / physical data modeling to create relational data models.
- Implement security recovery procedures; determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements.
- Maintain data dictionaries and set standards for data dictionary usage; monitor performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
- Create test database environments, libraries, and procedures; manage backup / recovery procedures within established guidelines.
- Assist with database security standards, disaster recovery planning, and database software installation; analyze, design, and implement databases.
- Assist in benchmarking, threshold testing, and establishing security controls; participate in selecting database management software.
- Provide support to users when accessibility issues arise (EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies).
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :10+ years of experience in designing, developing, and maintaining advanced MS Access databases with normalized tables, sophisticated queries, data entry forms, and reports.10+ years of expert-level relational database design, normalization, ER modeling, schema refactoring, and translating Access data models into scalable SQL schemas.10+ years of experience with Microsoft Access, including table design, complex queries, forms, reports, and VBA for custom functionalities and workflow automation.10+ years of experience migrating legacy databases to major cloud SQL services (Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server / MySQL).8+ years of ETL tool experience (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS or equivalent).8+ years of creating migration runbooks, data dictionaries, technical documentation, and delivering training / knowledge-transfer sessions.8+ years of experience with RDBMS admin / console tools (TOAD, SSMS and / or SQL Developer).8+ years configuring data integration and batch processing solutions in Azure Data Factory and / or SSIS; monitoring data ingestion and performance; reviewing query plans.8+ years migrating data from legacy databases to new target databases.6+ years of experience with CI / CD methods, GitHub, JIRA.6+ years of experience with data visualization / reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau).6+ years applying Agile Development Methodologies.3+ years of prior experience in healthcare or Public Health.3+ years experience implementing and using agile methodologies and best practices for state agencies (e.g., State of Texas).J-18808-Ljbffr
