About Abode Money
Abode Money is building the financial home for your home.
Our mission is simple: Make homeownership more affordable for everyday homeowners. We're using AI to automate the hard parts of saving on home costs such as property tax, insurance, utilities and more.
We see a future where AI does the heavy lifting for homeowners (analyzing data, fetching documents, filling forms) - so homeowners can avoid headaches and live more affordably. No one is doing this today, and we see creating an ongoing relationship with homeowners as a massive gap in the market.
We have incredible backers, including Core VC, Drive Capital, Sequoia and 81 Collection.
The Role
We're looking for a Software Engineer who is highly autonomous, reliable, cool under pressure and deeply capable - the person people trust with the hard problems. You'll own major product and system areas end-to-end, from architecture to production reliability. You'll work closely with the founders to build the infrastructure that powers Abode Money.
This is a high-autonomy role for those that do their best work when given space, responsibility, and trust.
What You'll Do
- Own and build core systems across property tax, insurance, mortgage optimization, and more.
- Design, implement, and maintain workflows and services that must be resilient and scalable.
- Break down messy real-world constraints into well-structured engineering solutions.
- Move with both speed and quality, knowing when each matters most - and how to balance the two.
- Make tradeoffs when perfection isn't possible, choosing between speed, reliability, and effort.
- Collaborate with product, design, and operations to turn pain points into delightful user experiences.
Who You Are
- You are the engineer people go to when something really matters.
- You take pride in your work - even small things (“How you do anything is how you do everything.”)
- You are steady under pressure and bring structure to uncertainty.
- You deliver consistently, with a blend of reliability, speed, and clear judgment.
- You value autonomy and ownership, and you use both responsibly.
- You assess trade-offs realistically, making difficult calls with maturity and context.
- You are genuinely excited about AI - you actively use AI tools and dig into new workflows.
- You are low-ego and high-responsibility. Your work - not your volume - builds your reputation.
- You collaborate clearly and respectfully, raising the bar for the team around you.
Basic Qualifications
- You're in Austin or willing to relocate. We work 3–4 days per week in person.
- 2+ years of engineering experience in high-ownership environments.
- Experience owning systems end-to-end (architecture → implementation → production).
- Strong foundation in backend or full-stack development with modern languages and cloud infrastructure. Exact stack experience is flexible; strong engineers ramp quickly.
- Ability to ship production features independently with high reliability.
- A genuine enthusiasm for using and mastering modern AI tools and workflows.
Our Core Values
- Take ownership. Single-threaded autonomy is the best way to build with accountability. Getting from 90% to 100% is an under-appreciated skill in a startup, but it's what moves the needle.
- Move fast. Be decisive. Learn quickly. Iterate relentlessly. Speed is our advantage—never let perfection slow progress. Build so no one can catch us.
- Be resourceful. We accomplish more with less. Constraint breeds resourcefulness and invention. No matter the challenge, you always find a way. No one says, “That's not my job.”
- Challenge convention. Be creative. Question existing solutions to fix broken systems. And stand out. The world is full of noise, so think boldly and be different.
- Measure everything. Data is our truth. We quantify instincts, validate decisions, and track what matters. If we can measure it, we can improve it.
If this sounds like the environment where you do your best work, we'd love to talk. If you want your application to be looked at faster, please send an email to tyler(at)ownabode.com with 1) your LinkedIn profile and 2) a brief note on why you're excited to join Abode Money.
