Summary :

Responsible for providing assistance and directive leadership to the shift’s Production Equipment Operators who perform basic operator maintenance, adjustments, quality and operation of production equipment used to produce cups, containers, straws, and / or lids.

Functions :

  • Meets and communicates with either on coming or off going Lead Production Equipment Operator to review current issues such as quality, housekeeping or any changes needed.
  • Reviews daily operation plans with Shift Supervisor to ensure that all required changes to schedule are implemented so that production needs are met.
  • Trains other team members on equipment operation.
  • Periodically will be required to have on-call availability
  • Verifies compliance of quality checks are done by Production Operators.
  • Assures proper paperwork is filled out and kept on file.
  • Provides directive leadership and ensures company policy and safety rules are being followed.
  • Acts as backup to shift Supervisor.
  • Assists and performs Production Equipment Operator duties by :
  • Performs continuous operation of multiple production equipment to ensure that product meets specifications.
  • Makes basic mechanical adjustments such as changing temperature, air settings, water pressure, speed and hydraulic pressure.
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs and troubleshooting to maintain quality products.
  • Generate and review production reports to identify production equipment that are not performing to efficiency standards
  • Maintains established cycle settings on assigned machines to ensure production quality with minimal scrap.
  • Perform equipment evaluations at the start of the shift to ensure production flow is consistent throughout.
  • Perform basket checks , line checks and all assigned quality and measurement tests of the product being made to inspect for defects and malfunctions every hour.

Must document findings on the inspector checklist.

  • Assures that equipment is properly repaired and put back into production with minimal downtime.
  • Performs all assigned quality tests to ensure the quality of the product being made weight, length, color testing and straightness of product).

This requires frequent fingering and handling of the product to inspect for defects.

  • Comply with all safety rules, policies, procedures and practices to include performing lock-out / tag-out (LOTO) of production equipment when required.
  • Responsible for informing the leadership team immediately of any failures to meet established quality standards to ensure that corrective action is taken.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.

11. Assures a smooth operating flow of production equipment.

12. Adheres to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process

requirements and sanitation guidelines rectify and or report any and all non-compliance to Management

13. Assists other team members as required, without being asked.

14. Maintain housekeeping standards by keeping work area clean at all times.

15. Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor, Plant Engineer, Department and Plant Manager

Physical Demands :

  • Work an 8+ or 12+ hour shift while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, use hands to finger, grasp with hands and arms, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and lifting throughout the entire shift.
  • Requires the manual movement of cases of finished goods that weight up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions :

  • Exposed to extreme heat.In-doors in a manufacturing environment that is not air conditioned.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Wear PPE while working, which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards.
  • Work an 8+ or 12+ hour day shift
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime

Qualifications :

Education High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience Two years in a manufacturing environment.Min. Two years as a print equipment operator.Previous machine operator experience in plastics or foam industry preferred.

One year experience in cross training team mates.Two years minimum of prior leadership experience.

Skills Basic Math skills, Mechanical aptitude.Must be able to Read, write and speak English. Good oral and written communication skills.

Basic Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel) Ability to function independently.
