Uses professional enterprise risk management concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complicated issues.

Works on casualty, property, employee injury, and loss prevention programs and services where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

The University of California, San Diego, Environment, Health & Safety Workers' Compensation Analyst 2 works under general supervision of the Workers' Compensation Program Manager.

Responsibilities include; facilitation of transitional return to work assignments for injured employees, and case management of workers' compensation claims.

Additional duties include; providing advice and analysis of workers' compensation procedures for faculty and staff, and delivering Workers' Compensation Program training classes.

WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM ANAYLST 3 - QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related field and progressive experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of California Workers' Compensation Rules and Regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology in association with worker's compensation claims management.

Demonstrated Knowledge of CAL-OSHA Regulations as demonstrated through experience. Education / extensive knowledge of California Workers' Compensation Labor Code / Laws.

Thorough knowledge in the following areas : risk management; insurance; forecasting and analysis; accounting; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs;

knowledge of organizational processes and procedures; understanding of organization rules and regulations.

Proven interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational skills. Demonstrated superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy in all interactions.

Ability to identify the correct issues to be communicated, the appropriate audience, the method of communication, and the timing of the communication.

Advanced writing skills to independently compose letters and memos using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading.

Ability to write concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical or narrative reports.

Understanding of customer service techniques and procedures and the ability to apply them in achieving quality customer service goals with diverse populations.

Proven ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing Demonstrated ability to analyze policy issues / procedures / laws or other directives and form solid recommendations or actions to be taken.

Ability to develop creative solutions for complex cases that are sensitive in nature and where the existing laws and policies are in conflict.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Proven ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems. Proven skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, or procedures to identify relevant concerns, identify patterns, or tendencies and form logical and objective conclusions.

Proven ability to complete task-oriented assignments on a daily basis as well as administrate triage (ability to identify, organize and prioritize work tasks.

Demonstrated self-motivation and dedication to meeting deadlines.

Strong skills required to develop course materials and deliver content effectively to diverse populations. Proven experience providing and delivering training courses to diverse backgrounds, job classifications, and varying levels of education.

Skill in working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, as well as possess the ability to work independently.

Demonstrated knowledge of American Disabilities Act (ADA) and other California disability laws.

Demonstrated ability to adhere to and model the University's Principles of Community.

WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM ANAYSLT 3 REQUIRED CERTIFICATION

Completion of Workers' Compensation Claims Administration Certificate (WCCA) or equivalent.

WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM ANAYSLT 2 - QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from college with a major in business administration, economics, educational administration or a related field, plus progressive years experience in administrative analysis in the workers' compensation field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge in the following areas : risk management; insurance; forecasting and analysis; accounting; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs;

knowledge of organization processes and procedures; understanding of organization rules and regulations.

Proven knowledge of Transitional Return to Work and light duty programs. Proven knowledge of California workers' compensation regulations, benefits and claims management procedures.

Knowledge of basic safety and loss prevention principles / practices to reduce the cost of Workers' Compensation claims.

Knowledge of basic UC Workers' Compensation procedures and accounting principles.

Proficient interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with ability to negotiate, establish working relationships with others and work in a team environment.

Strong oral, presentation and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with diverse individuals and groups in a clear, concise manner.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgement.

Demonstrated ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex problems, conduct research, draw conclusions, develop and recommend solutions that meet the objectives of the department and comply with policies and laws.

Ability to interpret policies and procedures.

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with a proven record of successfully instructing others in claims procedures and navigating complex benefit systems.

Ability as demonstrated through experience to deliver training to a diverse population and serve as an instructor for education / training presentations and workshops.

Ability to query information, analyze data and develop reports and recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems. Ability to analyze large quantities of Workers' Compensation claims data, extract pertinent information, and maintain accurate records (electronic and print copies).

Demonstrated ability to use word processing, financial spreadsheet, and training presentation software programs, such as Word, Excel and Power Point.

Proven experience working with confidential information and protection of sensitive data.

WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM ANAYSLT 2 - PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of the Insurance Education Association's Certificate Series "Worker's Compensation Claims Administration" (WCCA) or "Workers' Compensation Claims Professional" (WCCP) preferred.

Completion of the Certified Professional in Disability Management, or the Certified Disability Management Specialist curriculum and certification preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

DOJ / FBI and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License to operate University vehicles and may be required to participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
