Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, evenings, and / or weekends.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom / laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education / training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education :
- Technical Diploma in Truck Driving OR
- High School Diploma and successful completion of Truck Driver Train-the-Trainer course offered through WTCS (or equivalent school with transcript).
This course must be completed by the end of the first year of teaching.
Required Occupational Experience :
- Must possess and maintain a good driving record with DOT / DMV & CSA (Compliance Safety & Accountability) Score
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years (14,000 hours) experience as a truck driver. In addition, one of the following must be met :
- At least two years of driving experience must have occurred within the last five years OR
- Two years* of teaching in truck driving course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
- One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent to two (2) FT semesters or four (4) PT semesters.
Industry or vendor certification :
Must complete the most up to date defensive driving course series online via SumTotal with a score of at least 80% within the first 90 days of employment.
Required Licensing :
- A Current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Current Driving record acceptable with DOT and WI DMV Standard
