Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of Research – Tenure/Tenure Track or Promotion Path

The Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy at High Point University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position.

The individual in this position may be tenured / tenure track or on the promotion path (non-tenure track). Primary responsibilities include teaching PharmD students and contributing to new knowledge through scholarship.

A significant component of this position is service to the School of Pharmacy faculty in directing aspects of faculty and student research both basic and clinical - as detailed below.

The estimated distribution of effort for this individual at program maturity (i.e., when a full faculty cohort is hired) will be 10% research, 40-50% teaching and 40-50% service.

Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Tentative start date is July 1, 2024.

Applicants with areas of expertise / interest within the broad disciplines of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences are welcome to apply.

Areas of priority include (1) medicinal chemistry, (2) biochemistry, (3) pharmacology, (4) physiology, (5) pharmacy, or (6) associated medical fields, such as biostatistics.

Instructional duties may include both lectures or laboratory settings.

QUALIFICATIONS : Education :

Education :

Pharm.D., M.D., or Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, toxicology, pharmacy, or related biomedical science field.

Experience and Training :

  • Postdoctoral experience and a record of strong academic credentials in areas of relevance to pharmacy, such as medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology or physiology.
  • Medical or pharmacy academic teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstration of sustained research funding of an independent research program.
  • Scholarship in the individual’s field of study or Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL).
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellence in pharmacy education and research.
  • Experience working with students and faculty as a mentor or preceptor

Knowledge, Skills, Ability :

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Skill dealing with a various groups of people
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in leading teams is strongly preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • Develops, coordinates, and teaches content within the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy integrated curriculum as appointed by the Department Chair
  • Develops and offers an elective course that corresponds with expertise area(s) as needed.
  • Utilizes ExamSoft® or other software to conduct all School of Pharmacy assessments.
  • Provides mentorship and advisement for students in the School of Pharmacy as appointed by the Dean’s Office and Department Chair.
  • Communicates teaching and scholarship activities through frequent and effective communication with the Department Chair.
  • Contributes to new knowledge through scholarship.
  • Establishes a record of excellence in teaching in pharmacy education.
  • Publishes scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals, produce case reports and present research findings at national and international meetings as allowed by the allocated research effort
  • Integrates and enhances collaborations among the clinical sciences and basic sciences in areas of research, education, and service.
  • Contributes to the educational and research missions of the Department of Basic Pharmacutical Sciences, Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy and High Point University
  • Advances the service missions of the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy and High Point University to meet community needs. Act as a representative and advocate for the department, the school of pharmacy and the University.
  • Actively participates in committees within the Department, School of Pharmacy, and University and participate in professional and governmental organizations as appointed by the Department Chair.
  • Abides by University and School of Pharmacy policies.
  • Undertakes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Director of Research

  • Leads the development and maintenance of a strategic plan around the role of research within the FWSOP
  • Facilitates significant and innovative research by creating a supportive environment for scholarly and creative activities for all faculty and students.
  • Develops programs that enhance competence in research and scholarship across all scientific domains including patient care.
  • Collaborates with University Office of Research and Sponsored programs to assure adequate resources are available to support all FWSOP research programs.
  • Enhances the research experience for PharmD students through program development, mentoring and support for effective student research pathways within the school of pharmacy
  • Enhances teaching at the university by incorporating research into the educational experience.
  • Develops an effective mentoring plan for faculty to advance research activities.
  • Promotes interdisciplinary research that is competitive nationally for extramural funding.
  • Promotes media relations and development activities to recognize and support faculty and student research.
  • Manages FWSOP and departmental research capabilities, such as lab equipment purchases, maintenance and inventory
  • Leads creation and presentation of ad hoc reports to the Dean and FWSOP administration as needed
  • Faculty member holding this title reports to the Dean for the responsibilities associated with this Director role and to department chair for other responsibilities;
  • Work allocation for this role is 30-40% effort and is classified as service.
