Job Description Site Coordinator

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children to receive child care and recreation.

To maintain a safe and healthy environment.

To promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development

of the children.

To facilitate parent and program communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be at least 20 years of age. Candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to work well with children and one of the following combinations of education and experience :

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related field, six credit hours in child and youth development or other areas related to SAC programming, and six months related experience.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field, nine credit hours in child and youth development or other areas related to SAC programming and one year of related experience.
  • An Associate's Degree or two years college in a related field or equivalent certification, nine credit hours in child and youth development or other areas related to SAC programming, and eighteen months of related experience.
  • Has completed and passed the Para-Pro Certification and demonstrates the administration skills needed to manage a program site and 5 years experience with ROSCCO.
  • The Site Coordinator must meet, or is in the process of meeting, the qualifications for State of Connecticut approval as a After School Program Head Teacher.
  • Demonstrates the administrative skills needed to manage a program site of 40 to 60 students
  • Demonstrates the group management skills needed to supervise a group of 20 students and has the ability to supervise and train both Group Leaders and Activity Leaders.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read an activity plan in order to set-up and clean-up activities and has acquired the skill to lead an activity with a group of 10 to 20 students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet the needs of all children; including those who are at risk, those with

special needs, those who are gifted, and those who are culturally diverse.

Implement recreational activity plans, which promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children.

Follow a consistent schedule, which includes small and large group

experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor

activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between

activities.

Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation,

socialization, and choice-making; ask open-ended questions and listens

respectfully to the answers.

Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement

in the classroom.

Work with the school and ROSCCO in developing specialized plans if

needed.

Coordinate support for students with special needs in the classroom and

develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children.

Supervise and monitor children at all times.

Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.

Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens,

and access emergency services as needed.

Maintain accurate reports and records related to program operation and

licensing.

Participate in team meetings as needed to plan for and deliver

collaborative services across all components.

Other duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of human development, family dynamics, and the needs of

children.

Experience with children and families who may be at risk, have special needs or gifted, and come from culturally diverse populations.

Ability to apply Early Childhood Development, Education or Human Development theory in daily classroom activities.

Excellent communications skills, especially good listening skills.

Competency in practicing healthy environment procedures.
