Job Summary
Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning full-time faculty to join the Instructional Computing division that offers multiple occupational programs such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Programming, Networking, Cybersecurity, Web Development, as well as Computer Science.
This position will teach computing using innovative, collaborative and interactive methods.
Essential Functions
- 50% - Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students, including students in a classroom and / or lab setting, online or hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats;
- uses learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and success;
incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques
- 20% - Develops instructional materials and curriculum, written syllabi / course outlines and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records;
- prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes;
uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning
- 20% - Maintains office hours to assist, tutor, mentor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship, and personal development;
- works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects; participates in STEM programs and activities;
- cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students;
cultivates relationships with business and industry to identify new programs and work skills and develops internship and co-op opportunities.
- 10% - Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, reading / studying the literature, attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, workshops;
- develops and enhances knowledge of computer pedagogy; participates in college and district activities including department / division meetings, workshops and projects;
- during the first year, may participate in a committee but will not be required to; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college;
maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students; participates in divisional activities; performs related duties commensurate to the level of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of occupational experience in the field to be taught
Three (3) years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree
A Master's degree in the teaching field
A Master's degree in the field to be taught with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field
A Master's degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and / or graduate credits in the teaching field (Upper division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelors' degree)
Desired Qualifications
A. Advanced training in the computing field as evidenced by a Computer Science graduate degree, graduate training / course credit hours or professional certification.
B. Industry and / or Teaching experience in programming with preference to Python, data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning
C. Experience teaching in a higher education institution using teaching methods that involve student engagement and / or collaborative / active learning
D. Experience teaching in a variety of delivery formats including face-to-face, online, live-online, hybrid, and short-term / accelerated courses
E. Experience collaborating with educational institutions to guide student pathways and with industry partners to promote mentoring and / or internships
F. Experience working with, interacting with and instructing individuals of diverse abilities and / or cultural backgrounds
