For candidates pursuing a career in Utility Locating. Terracon is growing and hiring a Utility Locator Lead in our DC West office! Our DC West office utilizes a comprehensive range of near-surface geophysical technologies in support of geotechnical, environmental, engineering, and materials testing investigations, including utility location.

This position is for a person who will be responsible for oversight of field marking and group growth of utility locating services in support of our internal drilling operations.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities :

Growth-oriented Utility Locator / Geophysicist responsible for conducting utility locating using a combination of Electromagnetic Line Locating (EMLL / RD), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and Metal Detection (MD);

assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Group growth of Utility Locating services in support of our internal drilling operations.
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects / tasks.
  • May oversee work performed by other utility locators.
  • Drive commercial motor vehicles, however a CDL license is not expected.
  • The candidate should be organized and capable of performing, collecting, and managing field data.
  • Complete paperwork including record keeping, field sketches, detailed notes, and maps of field work legibly and accurately.
  • Must be a good communicator and work independently or in a group setting.

Requirements :

  • Associate / Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • At least 5 years of experience.
  • Willingness to travel regionally.
