May be defined by the department based on the responsibilities of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer someone with experience in working on a farm, especially with tobacco.
Position Summary
Individuals will assist researchers with tobacco duties to include transplanting, making counts, topping and suckering, weeding, harvesting tobacco leaves, loading and unloading curing barns, weighing cured leaf samples, grinding cured leaf samples and entering data.
General farm duties include mowing grass, cleaning yards, cleaning buildings, painting, and repairing water lines. The majority of the work is outdoors between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Additional Education, Experience, Licensure, and / or Certification
High School diploma is preferred, but will consider high school students.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies
Physical Demands
Physical requirements include the ability to work outdoors, bending, lifting, digging, and walking. Some activities are performed during inclement weather.
Is driving required to perform essential duties outlined in this position? (This does not include infrequent trips) The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s / he has a valid driver's license when offered employment.
