Position Summary

The Digital Communications Officer plays a key role in developing and executing the brand strategy and organizational messaging for the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

The Digital Communications Officer is thoughtful, collaborative, and creative and has a broad set of skills that will allow for the creation and implementation of the Foundation’s overall communication efforts.

Specific skillsets may include experience in public relations, social media management and content creation, graphic design, and website development and management.

The Digital Communications Officer is a member of the Public Affairs & Communications Team and reports to the Vice President for Communication & Public Affairs.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Support the daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly communication efforts of the Foundation by performing the following functions :

Overall Foundation Communication Efforts

  • Assist in disseminating and implementing a general communications plan for the Foundation.
  • With the support of team members, build, maintain, and enhance the Foundation’s media and stakeholder email distribution lists.
  • Help ensure written content follows the Foundation’s stylistic guidelines, strategic approach to communications, and is free of grammatical errors.
  • Thoughtfully plan, write, and execute segmented email communications incorporating the Foundation’s external communication and public affairs strategy.
  • Utilize the Adobe Creative Suite to identify and develop future content that can be used to promote the Foundation’s efforts
  • Develop the Foundation’s correspondence for digital communications.
  • Build and maintain an effective database of images and video for use in multiple locations and for a variety of purposes.

Internal Communications, Marketing and Support

  • Ensure that all publications, print and digital, are stored and accessible, including organizational templates and all elements of brand identity.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory system that ensures that all equipment and marketing materials (camera, tri-pod, external hard drives, mult box, pull up banners, step and repeats) are stored correctly, accounted for, and maintained in optimal working condition.
  • Support internal communications needs by designing print & digital collateral, presentations, and reports.
  • Support the maintenance and content updates of the Foundation’s websites, managing the sites, including the back end; overseeing website upgrades, enhancements, and redesigns;

troubleshooting issues; tracking analytics; undertaking ongoing content review; and identifying ways to increase site visibility and traffic in concert with developers, designers, and staff.

  • Create content and copy for internal staff newsletters and other communications.
  • Research national trends in Philanthropy and maintain current knowledge of the work of local nonprofit grantees.
  • Monitor and disseminate media mentions of the Foundation.
  • Participate in the Foundation’s cross-functional teams in planning initiatives, annual meetings, campaigns, and special events.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal departments and stakeholders.

External Communications and Marketing

  • Develop and execute a long-term strategic plan for all Foundation social media channels (X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • Create social media content (photography, videography, graphic design, and creative writing)
  • Manage the pre- and post-production of digital projects including videos and photo shoots.
  • Manage the Foundation’s website and social media channels to ensure content consistency and accuracy.
  • Monitor all Foundation social media accounts for any external mentions and tags.
  • Support public relations activities, including the dissemination and packaging of press releases, media advisories, media kits, talking points, and newsletters.
  • Remain abreast of current events and news impacting the Greater New Orleans region.
  • Maintain a media contact list for our media market.

Public Affairs

Knowledge of elected officials in the 13-parish region of Southeast Louisiana including Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St.

Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Tammany, Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Tangipahoa, and Washington.

Create and maintain contact information for key elected officials and their staff members in the 13-parish region.

Remain Flexible about Work Assignments :

Because of the fluid and evolving nature of work at the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the Digital Communications Officer may be asked to take on other assignments not covered in this position description (which is itself an evolving document).

The Digital Communications Officer is expected to demonstrate openness and flexibility when asked to take on these new assignments.

Skills and Experience Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design or other related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in communications and / or public affairs with proven leadership role in graphic / digital design, website content development and in a variety of communications including newsletters, marketing materials, video, and other publications.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Wix, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Canva, Photography, video editing, Mail Chimp, and similar digital communications services.
  • High level understanding of social media platforms : Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIn.
  • Experience using social media scheduling services.
  • Preference for graphic design and video editing skills.
  • Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
  • Highly collaborative style.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and entrepreneurially; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to be dependable, take initiative, solve problems effectively, communicate clearly and support organizational change.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse communities, leaders, and staff.

Professional Conduct :

The Digital Communications Officer will maintain high standards of professional conduct, both internally with colleagues and externally with other audiences. This includes :

  • Completing work in a timely manner and on-time attendance at meetings, both on-site and off-site;
  • Following the Foundation’s administrative policies and procedures;
  • Speaking and acting responsibly when representing the Foundation to external audiences;
  • Showing courtesy and a positive attitude in interactions with others; and
  • Maintaining confidentiality.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience; salary range starts at $65,000. This position is exempt, and the employee will be eligible for the Foundation’s competitive health and benefits plan including paid leave and employer-paid retirement.
