The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is a dynamic and exciting place to be. This position offers an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students as the Outreach and Recruitment team is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University.
The admissions counselor reports to an assistant director of Outreach and Recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work closely and alongside a team of full-time staff members of approximately 30 and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55.
Peak seasons are typically August through May given the cyclical nature of the work supported across Undergraduate Admissions.
In office or hybrid work hours (3 days in office, 2 days work from home) can range from 7 : 30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening, and weekend hours at various times during the year given the role's direct work with outreach and recruitment programs occurring in varying international time zones.
- As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions team the admissions counselor will spend the greatest amount of time through the year performing the following job responsibilities;
- managing a recruitment territory (e.g. domestic); executing territory specific recruitment activities and events in collaboration with partner offices using data, reports and analysis tools / technology;
- developing and maintaining positive relationships with high schools, community based organizations, and community colleges;
- traveling to high schools, community colleges, and college fairs to represent The Ohio State University with possible / extensive travel up to 10 weeks per year, potentially 3-4 consistent weeks in a given semester;
- making recruitment calls to prospective students in collaboration with partner offices; monitoring a territory specific budget;
- analyzing prospective student data; learning and using the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA) system, CRM system, Student Information System, and other technologies to perform timely and accurate entries into databases regarding student application information, call / email activity and other processes, performing data validation;
and managing electronic workflows.
- Additional responsibilities the admissions counselor will be responsible for include but are not limited to; counseling and corresponding with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding The Ohio State University undergraduate admissions policies, procedures, and general information over the phone, via email, and in person;
- conducting large and small-group presentations; learning and maintaining knowledge of the areas within the office and university to best direct questions from staff and guests;
- researching and resolving problems; assisting with on and off campus recruitment events and projects; coordinating recruitment for special programs, as assigned, which may include transfer, veterans, and College Credit Plus;
- providing support to access on / off campus programs and initiatives; reviewing applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population) and making admissions recommendations through our holistic application review process actual time commitment will fluctuate through the year;
participating as an active member of the Undergraduate Admissions team through membership on committees; and completing special assignments and other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience
Required : Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Conflict resolution skills; Demonstrated ability to collaborate; Program planning and implementation;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; Early morning, evening, and weekend hours required.
Desired : Work experience at a college / university, admissions preferred; Knowledge of data interpretation; Knowledge of CRM and other recruitment technology platforms
