Solar and Storage Engineer

Job Summary :
This position reports to the Manager of Solar and Storage and is responsible for Solar and Storage O&M Engineering support functions, including reliability and performance for the Leeward fleet.
The goals of this position are to develop maintenance and performance management programs for the expanding solar and storage fleet, provide technical guidance to the operating Leeward solar and storage projects, deliver cost saving and production improvement projects and support the transition of new projects into operations.
The position requires the ability to solve problems unique to solar and battery storage plants, communicate and manage resources effectively as well as deliver complex and time sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions :
- Develops programs to manage solar & storage plant productivity including reliability, condition monitoring, performance improvement, operation and maintenance
- Supports the turnover and commissioning of newly constructed plants
- Delivers inputs for annual operating budgets for solar and storage related projects
- Evaluates and performs analysis on solar & storage equipment health data
- Assesses failure rates and expected lifetime for solar & storage components
- Performs independent root cause analysis and / or validates contractor root cause analysis
- Develops models for solar & storage plant operational costs
- Develops business cases for plant improvements and retrofits
- Reviews maintenance records from solar and storage projects and makes recommendations for maintenance improvements
- Manages projects and contractors related to solar and storage engineering system improvements
Qualifications :
- 4-Year Bachelors Engineering Degree, Electrical Engineering preferred
- 10 or more years of relevant technical experience; experience with solar & storage power generation required
- Fundamental understanding of electrical power systems design and operation
- Experience with the maintenance and repair of electrical power systems, especially inverters.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and other common specifications in the electrical power industry
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-technical staff
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
Physical Demands :
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting and reaching
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 25%
- Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
