Data platforms, machine learning (ML) and AI are major focus areas for our AI and Analytics Practice, and we’re
looking for a Practice Director to lead the way. Do you have both technical and business skills? This is a chance to
set strategy, define product and service offerings, work with our sales team to win deals, and work with our
engineers to build reusable assets and custom solutions.
Responsibilities include :
Leading the Practice strategy by defining the IP and custom service offerings, target markets, and
lead generation approach
Taking ownership for Practice sales targets (supporting the efforts of the salespeople who are
primary owners of the quota)
Ensuring that we pitch our offerings to all applicable existing customers and prospects by
educating the sales team and helping them identify the best targets within their territories
Providing sales support in the form of collateral and RFP responses and pitching our expertise at
sales meetings and conferences
Working with the engineering team to build IP that can be used across solutions for multiple
clients
Ensuring the success of analytics projects by helping our engineering team on occasion; this
could be by kick starting new projects or troubleshooting them if something isn’t going well
Requirements :
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or demonstration of equivalent conceptual knowledge
through self-study and prior experience
2+ years of experience in a business development, practice leadership, or pre-sales focused on
analytics solutions
5+ years designing and developing data platforms at significant scale, including
o Large scale distributed computing and big data technologies, such as Spark
o Stream processing technologies, such as Spark Streaming, Storm, Kinesis
o Massively-parallel cloud datawarehouse engines and distributed query engines, such as
Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, Snowflake, and Presto
o NoSQL data stores such as MongoDB, Cassandra
o Data modeling of relational and dimensional databases
o Performance measurement and tuning
o Programming languages including Python, Scala, Java
Some understanding of modern AI techniques, sufficient to know what’s possible and practical
and have conversations with clients on how to use it to drive business impact
Understanding of cloud and distributed systems principles, including load balancing, networks,
scaling, and in-memory vs disk operations
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP; container and orchestration
technologies
Communication skills : the bar is much higher than usual engineering roles - both written and oral.
Travel : required frequently to meet clients; perhaps 2-3 trips per month for 1-2 days each.
Work location : the person should work from the Santa Clara office couple days a week when not traveling.
