Clinical Coordinator

Position Summary :

The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education responsibilities as assigned by the program director.

Clinical education effectiveness will be assured through a schedule of regular visits to all clinical education centers.

The Clinical Coordinator will coordinate all clinical instructors at all affiliates with the goal of maintaining a consistent and uniform clinical experience and will participate in didactic radiology classroom instruction.

Further responsibilities include student assessment in the clinical setting and new faculty orientation and mentoring. This position reports to the Program Director of the Radiologic Technology program at the University of Charleston Beckley Campus.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Clinical coordination of all affiliates
  • Develops, organizes, administers, and assures effectiveness of clinical aspects of the program
  • Coordinate clinical schedules for all students and affiliates
  • Provides didactic instruction and evaluation
  • Keep accurate records on all clinical students assigned to affiliates
  • Visit all affiliates on a routine basis
  • Coordinate specific clinical objectives for deficient students
  • Any other duties as assigned by the program chair
  • Coordinate clinical education for all clinical centers.
  • Travel to and instruction at clinical sites.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical education component of the program.
  • Plan regularly scheduled visits to each affiliate.
  • Work in conjunction with the clinical instructors to assure standardization and consistency of rotation schedules, evaluations, policies, and other procedures pertaining to the student’s clinical education.
  • Evaluate the competency-based clinical system and recommend revisions as necessary.
  • Quantitatively evaluate the student-instructor ratio and the effectiveness or lack of effectiveness based on outcomes;

recommend action to the program director based on JRCERT Essentials.

  • Provide didactic instruction as recommended by the program director.
  • Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and course outlines for didactic and clinical courses.
  • Review RT course syllabi, outlines, the Program and Clinical Handbooks annually and assure compliance to the Essentials or recommend revisions, additions, or changes when necessary.
  • Ensure accuracy of student clinical records, attendance, evaluations, etc.
  • Ensure accuracy and determination of clinical grades.
  • Review program curriculum regularly in relation to the University and division criteria for degrees.
  • Provide regular counseling and advising for students, based on their clinical and didactic performance and progress in the program.
  • Maintain records of the overall clinical rotation schedule and attendance of students.
  • Maintain and submit records for clinical placement, including but not limited to immunization records, health physical, drug screens, etc.
  • Seek and possess proficiency in curriculum development, program supervision, classroom and clinical instruction, program and individual evaluation, and student counseling.
  • attend faculty, division, university, and joint advisory committee meetings.
  • Attend clinical educator’s workshops, seminars, and conferences to remain up to date in knowledge of imaging techniques, educational methodology, and the JRCERT standards.
  • Provide pertinent information to the program chair and clinical instructors about instructional methodologies and ways to integrate didactic and clinical learning.
  • Meet regularly with the program chair.
  • Schedule meetings with clinical instructors, both individually and jointly.
  • Assist the program director with overall program effectiveness.
  • Serve on appointed committees within the department, division, and university as specified by the program director, the dean (either of the division or of the faculty), or the faculty.
  • Participate in continuing education and attend district, state, and / or national professional organizational meetings.
  • Assist instructors in lab simulations and lab testing.
  • Exemplify high standards and the goals of the sponsoring institutions and the profession.
  • Strive consistently to set a positive example for the program, the sponsoring institutions, the community, the students, and the graduates of the program.
  • Participate in recruitment for the program.
  • Other duties assigned

Qualifications :

The sponsoring institution, The University of Charleston, employs the Clinical Coordinator as a full-time faculty member to coordinate the clinical education for the program.

The minimum qualifications for the Clinical Coordinator are as follows :

  • Baccalaureate degree required.
  • Shall be credentialed in good standing in radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or possess suitable equivalent qualifications.
  • Shall have a minimum of two years of post-certification experience as a professional radiographer.
  • Shall have a minimum of one year’s experience as an instructor in an accredited radiography program.
  • Shall be proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and counseling.
  • Shall document evidence of continued professional education.
  • West Virginia state licensure in Radiography must be maintained.
  • Valid West Virginia Driver’s License

Physical Requirements

  • 50 lbs. of maximum lifting. Frequent lifting of 10 lbs., walking, standing, predominately sitting.
