in the College of Public Health is seeking applicants for a 50% Research Associate position. The Research Associate will assist on research projects by handling IRB applications/renewals, enroll and track subjects, collect data, assist in judging reliability and validity of obtained data, clean and analyze qualitative data, prepare data reports, and assist with day-to-day operations of multi-project research center.
Position Responsibilities
Develop survey and interview design approaches to collect qualitative data. Collect data through a variety of methods including survey, interview, focus group, document review and other qualitative methods. Manage surveys and conduct key information interviews and focus groups with population of focus.
Track and log participants through the various phases of studies:recruitment and enrollment, questionnaires, response/refusal, etc.
Assist in mailings including receiving and processing questionnaires, processing orders for study research materials and sending study documents to research participants as needed.
Conduct thorough research, analyze, and synthesize relevant information to develop comprehensive literature reviews.
Design and implement focus group research studies. Conduct interviews and discussion/focus groups as needed. Observe meetings as needed to collect data. Prepare, design and implement research tools, such as targeted surveys, interview guides, videos, and websites. Utilize experience in collecting, organizing, and making sense of qualitative data.
Make sure all steps in study processes are being completed, including developing and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and maintain IRB status and communications with study team. Develop and review IRB applications and provide continuing reviews for research projects.
Provide data preparation including performing quality control checks, cleaning data, and preparing reports. Evaluate assumptions, interpretations and inferences made in research. Analyze qualitative data and produce recommendations based on analysis. Manage qualitative data. Verifies information and/or material to be published, exhibited, or presented. Create reports and other documents as needed.
Coordinate meetings for investigators. Maintain access list and monitor reporting deadlines to ensure effective project management. Initiate requests for required resources. Maintain confidentiality of data collected.
Prepare progress reports and establish internal deadlines to ensure research protocols are met.
Collaborate with all program staff to create and maintain a high-quality program.
Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, supplemented by one to more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of social science research or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Previous experience managing and analyzing qualitative data and creating reports using that data.
Superb communication skills, especially writing skills.
Previous experience successfully working with others in cross sectional and multidisciplinary environments.
Experience with spreadsheet (e.g Microsoft Excel), word processing e.g. Microsoft Word), and database (e.g. Microsoft Access) software and communicating with email is required.
Ability to travel in Iowa, valid US driving license and the ability to meet the UI Fleet Safety Program driving standards.
Highly Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Health.
