Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child's rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety.

Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

KIND seeks a Senior Development Manager who will work under the direction of the Director, Institutional Development and in close collaboration with other staff in the Development department and across the organization. The Senior Development Manager serves a critical member of the institutional development team and will work to grow KIND partnerships institutional funders. They will manage a portfolio of 65-75 current and prospective donors, with a focus on foundations, corporations, and city and state government agencies. They will be responsible for building a pipeline of potential funding opportunities, cultivating new donors, stewarding existing funders, and managing grants for assigned program areas.

A incumbent will have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills that enable effective relationships both internally and externally. The incumbent will also have experience managing grants and building a pipeline of funding opportunities. Superior attention to detail to ensure compliance and funder responsiveness is also required. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and self-starter who is able to effectively manage multiple priority projects in a fast-paced environment.

This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S. This position is contingent upon continued funding.

Essential Functions

• Manages a portfolio 65-75 institutional funders and prospects for assigned program areas.
• Effectively stewards and ensures strong relationships with funders. Develop meaningful touch points and execute donor engagement plans.
• Develops and maintains strong knowledge of KIND's program work, priorities, and achievements to effectively represent assigned program areas.
• Researches new institutional funding opportunities and collaborate with team members to map budget and funding cycles and develop strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new prospects.
• Collaborates with other development and program staff to advance funder relationships. Prepare briefs, talking points, fact sheets, presentations, agendas, and other donor meeting materials.
• Serves as primary development point of contact for assigned program teams internally.
• Works with policy team to identify relevant government agencies and opportunities to advocate for funding to be allocated in support of unaccompanied children's needs.
• Supports development of testimony and public comments advocating for city, county, and state funding, working with the policy and advocacy and field office legal teams.
• Addresses funder inquiries, requests, and audits with professionalism and accuracy.
• Monitors funding trends and track news alerts for potential partners, competitors, and funders.
• Leads negotiation and agreements stage with donors.
• Attends funding-related informational events, webinars, and discussions. Responsible for sharing pertinent information with department leads.
• Coordinates with grant writers to ensure proposals and reports reflect the latest relationship and programmatic developments.
• Review reports and proposals and ensure on-time and high-quality submissions.
• Maintains thorough knowledge of grant terms and conditions, reporting requirements, and grant / contract renewal processes.
• As needed, supports development of proposal annexes such as CVs, organizational charts, and past performance references.
• Works cross-functionally to oversee award execution and ensure a smooth transition to post award implementation.
• Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of department processes, tools, and templates.
• Maintains organized and accessible records and support internal knowledge management systems.
• Supports revenue targeting and mid-year reforecasting.

$80,924 - $101,178 a year
