About the job

Advantra is partnering with a global enterprise in Phoenix to hire a Java Engineer to support a large-scale modernization initiative through the design and development of real-time data processing systems.

About the role

You will work on backend systems using Java and streaming frameworks such as Apache Flink, Storm, and Beam. The role focuses on building scalable and reliable components that power data-driven services as part of an ongoing modernization program.

Responsibilities

Design and develop backend systems using Java and real-time stream processing tools.

Build and maintain distributed data pipelines using Apache Flink, Storm, or Beam.

Optimize existing Java services for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Collaborate with architecture and data teams on modernization design efforts.

Implement data ingestion and transformation logic to support analytics and APIs.

Write and maintain automated tests and documentation for all developed components.

Participate in design reviews, peer code reviews, and deployment readiness checks.

Support production deployments and assist in troubleshooting and performance tuning.

Work within Agile teams to deliver on sprint goals and architectural milestones.

Core requirements

6 to 9 years of hands-on experience in Java software development.

Strong experience with stream processing frameworks such as Apache Flink, Storm, or Beam.

Solid understanding of distributed systems and data flow architecture.

Experience with data ingestion, transformation, and event-driven designs.

Proficiency in multithreading and concurrent programming in Java.

Familiarity with microservices architecture and REST API development.

Experience working in CI / CD environments with Git-based workflows.

Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Experience working in enterprise-scale modernization or migration projects.

Nice to have

Familiarity with Kafka or other message streaming systems.

Experience deploying workloads on AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Exposure to containerization using Docker or Kubernetes.

Working knowledge of monitoring tools like Prometheus or Grafana.

Prior experience in refactoring legacy systems to microservices.
