Test Rack Engineer, Kuiper Payload Processing Facility

Amazon Kuiper Infrastructure LLC
Merritt Island, FL, US
Full-time

DESCRIPTION

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

One of the most ambitious missions that Kuiper has undertaken to date, the Kuiper satellite constellation, is our solution to providing reliable internet around the world.

We are looking for talented engineers to help process Kuiper satellites to prepare them for launch into Low Earth Orbit.

The success of Kuiper depends on the quality, reliability, cost, integration, throughput, and security of the products that you deliver.

If you seek a fast-paced, dynamic environment; if you thrive on solving difficult problems where resolutions have high impact;

and if you love the challenge of building something from scratch, then this role will be an ideal next career step. To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.

The Test Rack Engineer will implement assembly, integration and test flows for space hardware builds. This individual will work closely with and work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams to integrate Kuiper satellites with dispenser and launch vehicle hardware.

The Test Rack Engineer is a skilled individual contributor within the team, providing guidance on many aspects including but not limited to testing requirements, assembly / integration work cell design within the payload processing facilities, facility and equipment planning, integration and test application implementation and improvement, process control, design for manufacturability, and project management.

The ideal candidate is comfortable in a highly technical setting and leads collaboration with other departments to reach the best solution to any problem and is able to technically challenge assumptions and requirements of these departments, such as dynamics and thermal analysis, design engineering, and tooling engineering.

Additionally, a Test Rack Engineer is expected to execute technical objectives, not only identifying the right long-term strategies but implementing them on their assemblies and responsibilities, leading by example first and then by instruction.

They'll have experience in space hardware integration and test, with particular focus on testing and electrical ground support equipment.

Export Control Requirement :

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.

e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Participating in a matrixed team of engineers to support multiple processing facilities and launch sites
  • Assist in hiring personnel (engineers and technicians)
  • Track, implement, and continuously improve assembly, integration and test processes
  • Specify and procure various test and support equipment and systems to meet program development requirements
  • Interface with facilities personnel in site usage and integration flow
  • AIT takt time and cost optimization planning
  • Definition and implementation of Work Order and automated documentation processes.
  • Payload compliance certification sign-off
  • Anomaly resolution and corrective action implementation
  • Shift schedule will vary, depending on production / launch schedules
  • Must be willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, either domestically or internationally as business needs demand

A day in the life

The Test Rack Engineer will spend significant amounts of time collaborating with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to test satellites, dispensers and oversee hardware integration.

They will support their assembly, integration and test workstations, address root cause of failures and issues, and implement production control and optimization strategies.

They will support the space hardware product value streams, implementing engineering best practices in a safe and repeatable manner, implementing efficiency improvements and reducing non-conformances.

We are a fast-paced, data-driven team, and work with leaders in multiple technology areas to deliver the best product for our customers.

We hold each other to relentlessly high standards, and constantly look for ways to improve the product’s performance, quality and cost.

We are excited about the technical challenges, which motivates us rather than discourages us.

We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
