Position Overview
This senior-level role will strengthen our finance leadership team by driving excellence in technical accounting, statutory compliance (SAP), internal controls, and strategic financial alignment . The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in both GAAP and insurance accounting principles , paired with exceptional communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented approach. This individual will ensure accuracy, accountability, and seamless collaboration across functions to support the company's financial integrity and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Accounting & Compliance
Interpret and apply complex accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606) to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
Oversee compliance with insurance-specific statutory accounting principles and regulatory requirements, including preparation and filing of statutory financial statements.
Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies that adhere to GAAP, SAP, and other applicable standards.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
Lead the design, documentation, and implementation of accounting process enhancements, automation initiatives, and internal control improvements.
Partner with cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies, implement best practices, and enhance financial accuracy, speed, and transparency.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication
Serve as a key liaison among Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Operations, ensuring consistent communication and alignment on financial initiatives.
Manage external audits, state regulatory reviews, and walkthroughs by coordinating documentation, timelines, and stakeholder communications.
Strategic Financial Support
Collaborate with leadership on strategic financial planning and analysis, providing insights to inform key business decisions.
Support the CFO in cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and capital strategy across multiple entities.
Assist in loan and credit facility documentation, scenario modeling, and development of tools to monitor cash runway under various conditions.
Qualifications
7+ years of progressive accounting or compliance experience, ideally in regulated industries (insurance or financial services preferred).
CPA required , with solid expertise in GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) .
Proven experience managing audits and regulatory examinations , including communication with state insurance departments and external auditors.
Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and other complex accounting standards.
Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of mentoring and cross-departmental collaboration.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on follow-through and ownership.
High proficiency in Excel and familiarity with modern accounting, ERP, and reporting tools.
A growth mindset with the ambition to expand into broader finance leadership and strategic management responsibilities.
Salary $140-180K + health / dental / vision 401k
