Department Summary

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to educating and creating well-rounded, knowledgeable, biomedical engineers who are passionate about improving the quality of life for people in Texas, the United States and the world.

With our populations aging and our brave veterans returning from wars, there is an increasing need for qualified biomedical engineers who can alleviate problems by conceptualizing, designing, creating and validating state of the art medical devices, processes and software.

Our unique undergraduate curriculum prepares our students for the challenges that lie before them, thus enabling them to be competitive in today’s job market.

We offer a 3-in-1 degree. Our graduates will get a degree in Biomedical Engineering and will also have the option of getting 2 minors one in mathematics and the other in another engineering discipline or Biology.

We also offer a pre-medical track for future physicians wanting to get an engineering degree. Our graduate program is structured similarly to offer more options to our students.

Our students undergraduate and graduate, will have the opportunity to work with outstanding faculty, conducting innovative research in biomaterials, biomedical instrumentation, nano-technology and biomechanics.

Position Overview

The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Administrative Coordinator to join our team.

This is an advanced administrative position assisting the Chair of the newly formed Biomedical Engineering department. Work involves performing a variety of technical and administrative duties.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to :

  • Relieves the Chair of a large volume of decisions complex in nature.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support tasks that are nonroutine and nonrepetitive in nature, and requires the use of considerable independent judgment and initiative.
  • Work assignments may involve continuing responsibility for designated activities or result from conference with the administration.
  • Responsible for determining methods and procedures to be used, priority of assignments and necessity for review by the chairman or administrator.

Work includes public contact in interpreting and promoting the departments programs and rendering administrative decisions.

Work is performed under general supervision from the administrator. Direct supervision of subordinate personnel is usually included in the job responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three years' of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience;

or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Advanced written communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting / budgeting procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively. Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function.

  • Willing to work with others faculty, staff and students.
  • Experience with scheduling, budgeting.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

Job Duties :

ASSISTING CHAIRPERSON :

Receives and coordinates daily responsibilities as designated by the Chair and coordinates the operation of the office.

GENERAL OFFICE :

  • Provides oral and written interpretations of policies and procedures concerning the department and the university to staff.
  • Supervises the maintenance of departmental facilities; submits or delegates the work requests for repairs and upkeep.

FINANCE / BUDGET :

  • Gathers and organizes all necessary budget information for department head for planning purposes and helps completes budget information to be submitted to the Dean.
  • Keeps up with financial status of accounts and money remaining each semester. Reports potential budget concerns to chair as needed.
  • Maintain a purchasing card for departmental needs, and reconciler for faculty / staff members Pcard.

PURCHASING :

  • Prepares purchase orders, IDOs, and reimbursements for all purchases in the department.
  • Preparation of all paperwork for faculty searches and appointments.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
