Under general supervision, the intern performs a variety of administrative and clerical support functions including assisting in financial reporting for the Office of the County Auditor. This position affects the accuracy, reliability and acceptability of further processes and services.
Responsibilities
- Answers telephone and greets visitors, provides information and assistance; takes messages.
- Assists in maintaining office filing systems.
- Prepares files for scanning, storage, labels and indexes records.
- Assists in reviewing invoices and prepares financial reporting data based on the review of invoices.
- Assists in the compilation and research of accounts and disbursements for financial reporting.
- Assists in reviewing timesheets and payroll calculations.
- Generates, maintains, and updates spreadsheets for financial reporting.
- Balances department source financial data to financial reports for verification of financial data and proper reporting in the general ledger and financial reporting systems.
- Makes recommendations from the analysis of accounts for account reconciliations and revenue reporting.
- Assists in the preparation and analysis of financial data and reports for internal, external, state, and federal audits.
- Assists the Auditor Office staff as needed by providing information, reports and records as requested.
- Performs accounting, auditing and financial reporting research, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and / or Experience
Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.Preferred enrollment at institution of Higher Education.Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Class C driver's licenseKnowledge Required : Knowledge of basic arithmetic and algebra including : addition; subtraction; multiplication; division; and interest, decimal and percentage calculations.General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems including but not limited to Microsoft and other common office programs : Word, Access, Excel, Quick Books, etc.Knowledge Preferred : General knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and protocols related to county government.General knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology and techniques of public accounting, (particularly governmental accounting), finance, budget, bookkeeping and cash management.General knowledge of accounting software systems.General knowledge of modern business office practices and procedures.General knowledge of Hays County regulations, policies, and procedures.Preferred Skills : General skill in maintaining accounting records and report preparation.General skill in documenting, reading, understanding and maintaining account ledgers and documents.General skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.General skill in operating standard office equipment, such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones.General organizational skills.General skill in identifying problems and developing solutions.General skill in planning, assigning and coordinating activities.General skill in expressing oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
