Job Duties :
The Virginia Beach Convention Center exists to facilitate successful experiences by offering a full range of high-quality services and amenities for conventions, professional trade shows, consumer shows and community events.

Job duties include the following :
- Operates a wide variety of equipment used in maintenance of the facility such as saws, drills, torches, sanders, grinders, or other maintenance equipment.
- Perform basic plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, welding, carpentry and other trade related tasks.
- Performs regular maintenance on a wide range of facility systems including but not limited to, pumps motors, filtering devices, HVAC and other mechanical devices.
- Responds to emergency requests for repairs, diagnoses problems and either immediately make repairs or call supervisor for assistance.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, manufacturer’s specifications and other reference materials to determine most appropriate methods of completing tasks.
- Recommend repairs needed on equipment and / or facility structures.
- Maintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner.
- Fill out daily reports of materials used and hours worked to provide a record of costs.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.
Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients.

Minimum Requirements :
MINIMUMS : High School, or GED, plus four (4) years experience in carpentry work in the capacity of General Carpenter, Floor Covering Installer, Roofer, Framer, or Form Carpenter;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

Preferences :
Experience in methods, materials and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, and other maintenance work.
Experience with occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Experience using tools and equipment for a variety of tasks.
Experience in building automated systems.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Ability to use, clean, repair, and maintain equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
