Concrete Worker I (Apprentice) or II (Journeyman)

Under the direction of the Streets Division Manager, the Concrete Worker installs and repairs City streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Removes, constructs and finishes concrete projects
• Removes existing concrete
• Reads and sets grade
• Constructs necessary forms for concrete pouring
• Finishes concrete of newly poured curbs, gutters and sidewalks
• Maintains satisfactory condition of City streets during winter
• Operates snow removal equipment
• Patches asphalt
• Maintains street signs and pavement markings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years documented apprentice level experience in concrete finishing, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license with a Class B CDL endorsement (including Tanker endorsements) or have the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of concrete removal and finishing techniques.
• Skilled in concrete finishing; and skilled in the operation of a loader, backhoe, dump truck, jackhammer, tamper, and various hand tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
