POSITION SUMMARY :

TheAssistant Director of Development reports to the Chief Advancement Officer forIntegrative Health and is responsible for managing relationships with majorgift prospects determined to have the ability to make gifts at or above the$25,000 level.

This position is charged with developing and implementing strategies forsecuring financial support from a portfolio of prospects, approximately 150-180,including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewardingmajor gifts for Duquesne University from alumni and friends for the College ofMedicine, the Rangos School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, School ofPharmacy, and the Center for Integrative Health.

Majorgift officers work independently and also as members of the University Advancementteam and coordinate their activities with those of other units in UniversityAdvancement and other units at the University.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Worksindependently and is self-motivated in initiating contact with potentialdonors

Manages a caseload of active major gift prospects and implements and executesstrategies for solicitation of these prospects, ensuring regular interactionthrough face-to-face meetings, mail / email / telephone, online meetings, campusmeetings, and events

Assumes and achieves annual fundraising activity and performance goals,including 100 to 120 in-person prospect meetings; submission of 10-20 majorgift-level proposals; an average accepted gift range of $25,000 to $500,000 innew commitments; and total dollars raised of $1,000,000 or more

Drafts contemporaneous briefings; contact reports, gift and solicitationstrategies, proposals, and other correspondence for prospects; processes giftcommitments expeditiously

Makes numerous decisions on portfolio management, including donor cultivation, proposaland solicitation planning, and relationship management, both internally andexternally. Effectively manages use oftravel time and travel and entertainment budget

Workcollegially with the development team, academic colleagues, key administrators,and volunteers in creating and implementing strategies for cultivation,solicitation, and closure

Schedulesown travel using a P-Card and reconciles all transactions in Chrome River in atimely manner

Completes otherduties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS :

Minimum qualifications :

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of highereducation

Valid driver's license

Willingness and ability to travelfrequently to conduct face-to-face meetings and attend events both locally andout-of-state

Preferred qualifications :

Proven experience (minimum three to five years) in majorindividual gift fundraising, preferably in higher education and / or a universityhospital setting, and in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable ofsix-to-seven-figure gifts

Knowledge of IRS and FASB laws, rules,and regulations, and thorough knowledge of fundraising and solicitationpolicies, procedures, and methods

Broad knowledge of principles offundraising and an ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle

Expertise and facility with Banner, MSOffice suite (especially Excel) Slate, or similar CRM

Ability to act as a proactive"prospector" who can handle duties beyond direct fundraising that ultimatelysupport alumni / friend discovery, cultivation and engagement, eventuallyresulting in higher levels of philanthropy

Ability and willingness to perform andembrace other duties as assigned or directed

Emotional intelligence

Excellent organizational, projectmanagement, multi-tasking, and leadership skills

Exceptional communication(verbal / written), listening, and follow-through skills; collegial andrespectful manner

Ability to work independently withinthe boundaries of established University policies and procedures and thedevelopment practices and codes of conduct from CASE and AFP
