Job Summary : North Central Ohio ESC has openings for a part time or full time Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
The orientation and mobility specialist travels to the students' assigned schools / settings to provide direct and / or consultative special education services relating to vision loss.
These services enable the students to learn in a variety of settings.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- As set by State Certification Authorities
- ODE Teaching License, Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Must be able to travel to various locations on a daily basis
Working knowledge of regulatory standards, ethical / legal responsibilities, and policies related to vision services in schools including ODE requirements
Strong relationship building, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills with school staff, parents, and internal / external stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence
Ability to effectively communicate and present information to NCOESC administration, staff, parents, and other stakeholders
Ability to efficiently multitask on a daily basis
May require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, CPI and / or behavioral management training or other training as needed
The employee shall remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his / her employment in the ESC
Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.
e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, ODE website, social media, etc.), and NCOESC databases
Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records
Essential Functions :
- Evaluates the vision and or orientation & mobility of students based on all available information.
- Complies with state model policies and procedures for the delivery of O&M services.
- Provides instruction / support in the use and care of vision, orientation, and mobility goals.
- Contribute to the development of the IEP with goals, modifications, and learning media.
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist / participate in the transition process for early childhood and high school. Work with agencies to promote a smooth transition process.
- Assist in determining and procuring proper therapy equipment.
- Provide the classroom teacher with information regarding the specialized strategies needed to teach the student.
- Provide student progress reports per district need.
- Provide updated pupil information (Federal Quota, deaf blind census, textbook projections).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
The performance of this job requires constant talking, and hearing, engagement in repetitive motions, and eye / hand / foot coordination.
This job requires occasional standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
Performance of primary duties takes place in a school environment with occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions including extreme heat & cold, temperature changes, wetness, humidity, noise, and hazards.
Frequent light to moderate physical effort required.
