HR Generalist (Employee Relations And Leave)
The HR Generalist (Employee Relations and Leave) serves as a critical member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Human Resources team, supporting a wide range of employee and labor relations functions. This position is responsible for conducting workplace investigations, managing the disciplinary review process, coordinating ADA accommodation requests, and responding to employee complaints and grievances. In addition, the role oversees payroll coordination for administrative leave and suspensions, ensures the department's lactation room meets compliance and cleanliness standards, and provides policy guidance and coaching to supervisors and command staff. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, this position also supports the development and delivery of HR training, promotes process improvements, and ensures compliance with department policies, City of Charlotte HR guidelines, and applicable employment laws. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in generalist-level HR practices, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate sensitive employee issues in a law enforcement environment with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.

The City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to : reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
