  • provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age;

and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.

NATURE AND SCOPE :

Under the direction of the Day Camp Lead, the Camp Specialty Instructor is primarily responsible for supporting the Camp program and for the successful achievement of providing guidance, safety, leadership, and education for children served by camp.

Areas of need for Specialty Instructors : Archery, Arts and Crafts, Basketball, Cheer, Tumbling, Climbing Wall and Ropes Course, Cooking, Dance, Drama, Theater, Fitness, Flag Football, Kayak and Paddleboard, LEGO, Music, Nature, Pickleball, Robotics, Sports, STEM, Swim, Gaming, Tennis, and Volleyball

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

  • Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure that all day camp programs run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.
  • Manage the site cleanliness and ensuring a safe environment for all students.
  • Lead programming that is focuses on specialized topics that will enrich the overall day camp program.
  • Implement lesson plans focused on specific skill development in a fun and engaging manner.
  • Provide teens with valuable leadership skills and lifelong lessons while engaging in fun and interactive activities.
  • Consult with the Youth development director on concerns related to student(s) development of behavior.
  • Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibility.
  • Stay updated on current issues regarding day camp programs.
  • Maintain and report incident / accident paperwork.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, and any other required certifications and / or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA.

  • Be able to recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities.
  • Be able to participate effectively with other staff in implementing creative and fun camp activities for camp.
  • Communicate positively with parents and staff as required.
  • Attend all staff camp trainings.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • High School Diploma in progress or completed.
  • 1+ years of experience working with children in a structured setting
  • Background and expertise in a specialty area
  • A working knowledge of computers : MS Word, MS Excel, data base management
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve, and possess effective time management skills
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality
  • Pass a Motor Vehicles Record and have own transportation
  • CPR / First Aid within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS :

  • Prior work experience specifically with teens
  • 21 years of age
  • Current certifications in First Aid / CPR; must obtain any other certifications required for the position.
