Overview

SBHIS Insurance Services is an insurance agency dedicated exclusively to helping Medicare beneficiaries find the plan that best suits their needs. All services are free of charge. A Health Plan Specialist (HPS) is a caring and energetic individual who serves seniors, understands their healthcare needs, and aims to improve their quality of life. The role requires ongoing training and certification on all plans SBHIS is contracted with. The position emphasizes field engagement, community outreach, and marketing to support grassroots campaigns and enrollment opportunities.

HPSs are expected to meet or exceed monthly goals and actively contribute to in-field marketing efforts, relationship-building with doctors and community leaders, and delivering high-quality service with empathy.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • The following key duties and accountabilities ensure the critical success of this position : spend 8 hours per week on lead generation with Management / HPS III oversight and 8 hours per week on lead generation independently.
  • Engage in camps, provider visits, sales presentations, community events (Health Fairs, Vaccination Drives, Covid Testing, Food Banks, etc.), grassroots marketing campaigns, and direct one-on-one engagement with seniors.
  • Conduct outbound calls to prospects and existing members using SIM; perform any activity that generates leads.
  • Spend 8 hours per week on 1 : 1 sales appointments with Management or HPS III oversight and 6 hours per week on 1 : 1 sales appointments independently.
  • Maintain accurate updates in Policy Keeper for every customer interaction, appointment outcome, follow-up calls, and other engagements.
  • Develop expert-level knowledge of all products represented; create and consistently use an SBHIS approved plan benefit comparison at each appointment.
  • Develop strong time-management skills to maximize 1 : 1 sales appointments; return calls to prospects within 24 hours.
  • Present plan benefits in various settings (In-Home / In-Office / Field & Telephonic) and complete paper and online enrollment applications on behalf of members.
  • Use the CMS presentation checklist to conduct compliant Medicare sales presentations.
  • Learn to qualify and assist prospects in applying for federal and state assistance programs.
  • 4 hours per week on customer service & retention with Management or HPS III assistance and 2 hours per week without oversight.
  • Respond to all inquiries within 24 hours; filter and prioritize requests for timely resolution; provide high-quality service to bring peace of mind to members; conduct regular communication to improve retention and generate referrals.
  • Maintain daily updates in Policy Keeper (CRM) for every interaction; allocate 4 hours per week to other activities (training, webinars, ride-alongs, mock presentations, team meetings).
  • This position requires constant training to progress to HPS II or III; HPS I should continually learn, improve, and grow.
  • All team scheduled activities and company training are mandatory.
  • Key success measures include attendance and punctuality, spending over 50% of time in the field, establishing relationships with medical offices, weekly manager progress reviews, quarterly evaluations, and meeting a quarterly enrollment goal with limited re-enrollments.

Education and Work Experience

  • Current Life & Health Insurance License for the applicable state.
  • Complete all certifications and testing within 30 days of employment.
  • College preferred but not required.
  • Sales experience.
  • Customer service skills highly recommended.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record.
  • Background check required.
  • Positive attitude and exemplary attendance.
