DESCRIPTION

The Senior Director of Quality, Patient Safety and Clinical Analytics reports to the Chief Quality & Patient Safety Officer and leads UC San Diego Health's clinical quality improvement, patient safety, and quality analytics programs.

In this capacity, they will orchestrate the organizations journey to high reliability and our journey to zero harm to realize exceptional outcomes for our patients.

This senior leader will help shape, then execute, the quality assurance and performance improvement plan. They will support clinical departments and divisions in evaluating outcomes to support improvements in objectives around standardization and utilization.

The Senior Director will perform a key leadership role in the development of an organization-wide culture of safety and quality improvement, informing the evaluation and implementation of performance improvement (PI) models, assessing PI education needs, linking PI activities and data with strategic goals.

Oversee database system management utilized to abstract, analyze and report national quality measure outcomes to regulatory agencies and quality improvement benchmarking platforms.

The Senior Director will leverage their expertise to develop and oversee teams responsible for key elements of the health system's quality portfolio.

Some examples include the peer review function; Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification teams - Comprehensive Stroke and Spine;

Culture of Patient Safety; Patient Safety Committee; FMEAs; and Significant Event Processes including use of CANDOR. Further, the leader will support targeted clinical improvement efforts in high-risk, high-volume domains such as sepsis, code blue / RRT, surgical quality, maternal and newborn outcomes, end of life care, and more.

In this role the Senior Director will provide administrative leadership to Patient Safety, Clinical Quality Improvement, and Clinical Analytics programs including all aspects of the operating budget, strategic planning, the delivery and monitoring of clinical quality, and improving patient safety.

This includes hiring, training, developing, and managing staff to ensure the realization of objectives.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical QI programs.
  • Generates budgets, timelines, work plans, and ensures successful execution of them.
  • Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation and management, and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives.
  • Manages the development and utilization of advanced metrics and analytics for use in QI processes.
  • Implements operational processes that contribute to highly reliable results across all departments and / or facilities.
  • Advises and influences senior management on regulatory changes and state-of-the-art advances in systems, technologies, data management, methodologies, the latest industry trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Develops relationships with clinical departments and provides training to facilitate the integration of quality and safety to benefit the overall clinical enterprise.
  • Responsible for the extraction, validation, and submission of publicly reported data (ie : TJC, CMQCC, CPQCC, NSQIP, IQR, OQR, and other "core measures").

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience leading quality programs in a complex academic medical center.

Minimum of eight (8+) or more years of relevant experience in complex health care setting.

Progressive hospital management experience, with in-depth expertise in quality and process improvement methodologies, statistical analysis, and data base management.

Expert working knowledge of current quality and patient safety initiatives in the healthcare industry demonstrated in recent professional experience.

Demonstrated experience and demonstrated ability to improve patient safety, clinical, and analytics teams.

Strong computer, data analysis, communication, and project management skills.

Comprehensive and thorough understanding of all elements of health care delivery, including strategy development, business planning, operations, and financial issues.

Experience and ability to work effectively with all levels of organization, including department chairs, faculty, and other members of the medical staff.

Possess a deep understanding of and expertise in the use of quantitative and qualitative measurements as they apply to analysis of practices, operational procedures, and revenue impact in relationship to patient outcomes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong preference for experience leading a similarly structured team
  • Strong preference for experience within a large, complex health system
  • Ten (10+) or more years of relevant experience in complex health care setting
  • Five (5+) or more years of manager (or higher) level experience in complex health care setting.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (LSSBB)
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or other related certification

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $124,400 - $243,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $59.58 - $116.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
