Purpose Statement The Coordinator School Counselor’s mission is to provide guidance to academic school counselors and school leadership, focused on all areas of student services.
Essential Functions
- Support all secondary School Counselors in utilizing effective strategies to assist students in developing goals, formulating personalized plans, and making decisions that will support them in reaching their goals.
- Interpret schoolwide data and to guide program decisions, make course recommendations, and take other actions to ensure each counseling department is college and career ready and can meet post-secondary goals.
- Monitor campus plans to involve students and families in the development of the student’s academic and postsecondary plans.
- Provide professional development on strategies to support students and families to address academic and social emotional needs.
- Ensure that all counseling teams provide individual and small-group counseling to help students identify problems, causes, alternatives, and possible consequences as they confront challenges in relationships.
Such counseling is normally short-term.
- Serve as a member of the district behavior team to maintain crisis counseling that provides prevention, intervention, and follow-up counseling and support to students and families facing emergency situations.
- Organize district and outside resources to assure consistency in access districtwide for all counseling teams.
- Collaborate with all counseling teams, administrators, teachers, staff members and families regularly to identify trends, provide information, receive feedback on the emerging needs of students, and support the school community.
- Analyze student achievement and counseling program-related data to evaluate the counseling program and discover gaps that exist between different counseling teams that need to be addressed.
- Promote access and opportunity for all students and demonstrate the belief that all students can succeed and should graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary opportunities.

Experience
- Strong background and skills with technology
- Familiarity with school improvement practices and Arizona’s school accountability system
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work with and motivate others
- Secondary counseling experience
- Master’s degree in education or related field preferred
- Knowledge of graduation requirements and college and career readiness
