Heavy Equipment Operator

Operate various types of power construction equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, primarily in projects associated with environmental contamination. Operate equipment utilizing both CAT and other controls. Responsibilities also include maintaining and performing minor repairs on the equipment.

Responsibilities :

• Learn and follow safety regulations.
• Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, and workers.
• Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms.
• Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, trench excavators, wheel loaders, and backhoes.
• Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to starting work.
• Monitor operations to ensure health and safety standards are met.
• Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines.
• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials using trucks, shovels, graders, or related equipment.
• Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
• Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

Work Environment :

Work involves radioactive and other environmental job sites, primarily in Northern California, with significant travel required. The role may require obtaining a dosimeter for radiological safety and possessing a REAL ID, TWIC, or passport for site access. The work environment is fast-paced, offering opportunities to quickly acquire new skills and responsibilities.

Job Type & Location :

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livermore, CA. The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00 / hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
