Job description

About the Firm

Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm offering a comprehensive approach to planning, architecture, interior design, and art. Guided by a passion for placemaking, weve designed over 27 million square feet of built space in more than 25 cities throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our portfolio spans residential, hospitality, commercial, arts & culture, and institutional markets, with expertise in adaptive reuse, new construction, entitlement and zoning support, urban planning, interiors, and art services.

Our Interiors practice is shaped by MAs Conversation-Driven Design Ethos, rooted in dialogue and collaboration. We believe the most meaningful designs emerge through an exploration of context, proportion, and creative vision, balancing tradition with innovation. This ethos drives us to create interiors that are timeless yet contemporary, layered with materials and details that enrich the client experience. By blending architectural rigor with artistry, we craft environments that inspire, endure, and tell a story.

About You

Were seeking designers who see every project as an opportunity to shape meaningful spaces. The ideal candidate is both visionary and disciplined, someone who takes ownership of ideas, pushes creative boundaries, and refines them with precision and care. You thrive in collaboration, engaging openly with colleagues, consultants, and clients to elevate design at every stage. Most importantly, you bring authenticity and generosity to the studio, pairing a strong creative voice with a genuine respect for the people and communities we serve.

Role Description

An Interior Designer II / Interior Architect II (IDII / IAII) generates architectural concepts for interiors and carries responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating design assignments. The IDII / IAII plans and develops interiors for multiple projects or large-scale assignments by producing appropriate concepts and providing subject matter expertise on specific components. Familiar with all project phases, the IDII / IAII can produce a coordinated set of construction documents with limited oversight and is introduced to construction administration responsibilities during this phase.

Key Expectations

  • Uphold MAs Core Values through collaboration, accountability, and design excellence.
  • Work flexibly, both independently and collaboratively, with project teams, consultants, and contractors.
  • Remain motivated, self-starting, and open to feedback, while seeking opportunities to learn and improve.
  • Communicate clearly in writing, verbally, and through strong design presentations.
  • Manage workload effectively, meet established deadlines, and complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in learning new software and tools as required.

Core Responsibilities

Project Design and Planning

  • Understand the MA Project Road Map, project scope, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Participate in design and development from concept through documentation.
  • Prepare client presentations, including conceptual imagery, renderings, elevations, and material / FF&E selections.
  • Develop FF&E packages and material selections, coordinating with vendors for finishes, specifications, and pricing.
  • Implement design direction based on leadership feedback.
  • Project Administration

  • Support coordination of client and internal meetings by preparing agendas and minutes.
  • Assist in developing Interiors work plans and monitoring adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Coordinate with consultants, including BIM integration.
  • Act as a secondary point of contact for contractors on RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced colleagues as appropriate.
  • Project Documentation

  • Assist in production of design development and construction documents with moderate oversight on larger projects and minimal oversight on smaller ones.
  • Develop schedules for interior finishes, appliances, plumbing fixtures, and hardware.
  • Review consultant drawing sets for accuracy and coordination.
  • Contribute to specifications preparation and maintain consistency across documents.
  • Redline and self-check work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Quality Control

  • Ensure compliance with MA Presentation Standards, Project Checklists, and QA / QC protocols.
  • Maintain working knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and BIM execution plans.
  • Archive project emails and maintain proper server file organization.
  • Construction Administration

  • Attend site meetings as an observer as directed.
  • Prepare surveys of existing conditions.
  • Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Maintain field reports, RFI logs, and submittal logs.
  • Support PM / PA in preparing punch lists.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
  • 6+ years of professional interiors experience with a strong portfolio.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, Procore, MS Office, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong design, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Firm Culture & Benefits

At MA, we cultivate a unique culture driven by our shared passion for community building, both inside and outside the office. Collaboration, open communication, and shared values define our studio, enhanced by weekly team lunches, firm-wide On-the-Boards presentations, the Beautiful Spaces offsite series, and in-house art exhibitions.

We offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance, a 401(k) plan, professional development incentives, and support for licensure and certifications.

MA is an equal opportunity employer committed to pay equity and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds.

    Application Note

Portfolios must be submitted for all design positions. Applications without work samples will not be reviewed. Please submit one PDF (1020 pages, max 5 MB) as part of your application where prompted for Resume or CV.
