The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 35,000 patients are treated in the VH. Essential Job Duties
The Intermediate Care (IMC) Technician provides high-quality nursing care for a varied population of hospitalized small animals and exotic species within the Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center. The IMC serves as the 24 / 7 progressive care unit for the hospital, offering exposure to a wide range of specialty cases and collaborative learning opportunities.
This position works closely with clinicians, students, and staff across multiple specialty services to deliver coordinated, compassionate, and expert patient care. The IMC Technician performs advanced technical duties such as patient admission and assessment, diagnostic and treatment support, medication administration, post-anesthetic and post-surgical monitoring, and operation of specialized medical equipment.
Success in this role requires strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability in a fast-paced teaching environment. Additionally, this position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis with or without accommodation. The IMC Technician plays a key role in mentoring veterinary students and fostering a culture of learning, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.
