Volunteer Coordinator – Part Time
The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. POB programs address vision health In the D.C. Metropolitan community.

Job Location : Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station, Hybrid Remote
Work Schedule : Minimum 10 – 15 hours per week
Pay : $22.00 per hour
Responsibilities :
- Source and recruit volunteers through digital outreach, in-person, cold calls, public events and organization visits.
- Work closely and develop meaningful professional relationships with individual volunteers, corporate / business groups, youth orgs, and others from the DMV.
- Interview candidates and match them to suitable roles based on their skills and interests.
- Develop and deliver orientation to help volunteers understand their roles, the organization's mission, and its services.
- Create / maintain schedules for volunteers, coordinating activities for events, and providing ongoing support and guidance. Ensure program staff ready to receive and lead volunteers.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of volunteers, their hours, and their assignments.
- Develop and implement regular volunteer communications – perhaps quarterly newsletter.
- Work with staff to plan and coordinate volunteer involvement in special projects, events, and various departmental requests.
- Recruit, coach, celebrate, and train volunteers in a variety of skill sets and subjects
- Provide orientation and tours for volunteers, including speaking about our organization’s mission and history
- Occasional weekends and evenings required
- Maintain collaborative work relationship with POB staff and volunteers
- Maintain the safety and comfort of volunteers
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree (BA / BS) from four-year college or university; and two or more years related work or volunteer experience and / or training.Valid driver’s license in the metro area (DC, MD, VA)Must have reliable transportationExcellent organizational and time-management skills, focusing on prioritization and meeting deadlinesThe ability to build positive relationships, work well with various individuals, and resolve conflicts that may arise.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, correspondence, and interacting with diverse groups of peopleThe ability to promote volunteer opportunities through various marketing techniques, including social media and outreach campaignsStrong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, keep records, and oversee the planning and execution of volunteer programs and events.Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),Ability to work well under pressure, including the ability to accommodate sudden changes to volunteer scheduling and other workday plansAbility to lift 30 poundsBilingual strongly preferredProfessional appearance and demeanor required.
