Job description

Overview We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead EMC Engineer in our Olathe, KS or Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for being a key technical contributor and / or project manager for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Certification and / or testing related to complicated projects and will serve as a mentor and provides guidance to less experienced EMC engineers. Essential Functions Reviews new project proposals and provides guidance to resolve any issues Demonstrates good knowledge of all Garmin products and their respective certification and testing requirements across multiple platforms Creates test programs to suit multiple certification programs Regularly demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems Represents Garmin among industry partners, peer groups and regulatory agencies (FAA / EASA / RTCA / GAMA / OEM / Audits / FCC / IEEE) Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1 & 2, Senior EMC Engineer) The Operations Team is responsible for partnering with cross functional engineering teams to achieve EMC and radio transmitter certifications. Lead and explain EMC planning for system architectures consisting of multiple transmitter modules Offer peer EMC assessments in areas of expertise Effectively represent Garmin among industry partners, peer groups, and regulatory agencies Research, conduct feasibility studies, and provide business-based recommendations to leadership on EMC approval requirements for many countries Provide significant contributions to compliance reviews across multiple product types Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including operations, production, sales and marketing Initiate new procedures when warranted Define general approaches and specific solutions to compliance problems while considering state-of-the-art methods Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Thorough knowledge of HIRF and Lightning (both direct and indirect) Demonstrates thorough understanding of certification requirements for Part 23, 25, 27, and 29 Be able to function as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Unit Member (UM) in HIRF and Lightning Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel Demonstrated project management and / or project engineering experience Must be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality Excellent time management skills and ability to generate and support pragmatic solutions that meet Garmin’s market launch requirements, while maintaining high quality standards Desired Qualifications iNARTE certification in EMC and / or Product Safety Past participation on a standards-writing committee Experience reviewing EMC and safety design aspects for circuit design and PCB layout Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO17025, AS9100, IATF6949 Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
