Job Title : Supervisor SEC and Financial Reporting
Department : Financial Accounting
Summary : This role will oversee the initial preparation of external financial reporting documents and assist with special projects surrounding mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
This position may also support and assist with certain technical research matters and the implementation, maintenance and review of internal controls and corporate policies and procedures.
The person in this position will report to the Director of SEC Reporting and Financial Accounting and lead a small team to prepare and analyze external financial information.
Ideally, the candidate for this position will need to be comfortable and effective in a rapidly changing environment and will partner closely with the leaders of other accounting functions, as well as a broad group of cross-functional business teams in order to provide guidance and support well informed accounting decisions.
The candidate must have a deep understanding of GAAP disclosure requirements and SEC rules and regulations and be a self-starter, fast learner and capable of taking ownership of their areas of responsibility.
They will be expected to anticipate issues, solve problems and recommend solutions, while exercising good business judgment and risk management.
This role also requires strong communication skills to write effective SEC-compliant disclosures and facilitate clear information flow between the SEC reporting team and other accounting functions.
Effective time management and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects are essential to the success of this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Responsible for supervising a portion of the SEC Reporting Team, including initial review of quarterly and annual regulatory filings, 8-K’s and other required filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the Company
- Assist in the accounting for and integration of certain mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
- Develop personal and technical growth opportunities for other members of the SEC Reporting Team and other accounting departments
- Participate and coordinate with the investor relations group in the earnings release process including review and / or preparation of financial information included in the quarterly earnings release
- Coordinate with corporate finance departments (Tax, Treasury, FP&A), operational finance teams and external auditors regarding required financial reporting-related deliverables
- Assist in organizing and presenting in quarterly disclosure review meetings with senior management
- Responsible for compliance with SEC and GAAP reporting requirements, including evaluating the impact of recent and proposed pronouncements on SEC reporting
- Monitor and enhance formal processes to ensure that appropriate evidential support is maintained to support all disclosures in the Company's SEC filings
- Review disclosures of peers and other SEC filers for reporting practices and improvement opportunities
- Sustain the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance efforts with respect to SEC Reporting including documentation of processes and facilitating testing of controls as necessary
- Assist in maintaining or documenting Corporate Accounting Policies
- Participate in external reporting system implementations including automation efforts and other improvements to the reporting process to streamline processes and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Company’s reporting and financial analysis
- Coordinate requests for SEC filings such as equity / debt offerings and assist in the preparation of pro forma financial information when required
- Oversee preparation of the annual proxy filing and review of the annual climate sustainability report
- Assist with monthly / quarterly internal reports as directed
- Other duties as assigned by management
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA Required
- Minimum seven (7+) years combined public accounting and corporate technical accounting experience (i.e., familiarity with FASB, SEC and financial reporting experience)
- Five (5+) or more years working with internal control principles and practices
- Three (3+) or more years of SEC reporting experience (10-Q's, 10-K's, 8-K's and proxy statements)
- Minimum three (3+) years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Proficient in Workiva or similar external reporting program
