Accounts Payable Specialist

Job Full Description

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounts Payable Specialist to support the Finance Department of a local municipal government entity. This role is responsible for processing vendor invoices, ensuring timely payments, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing excellent internal and external customer service. The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, and experienced in general or governmental accounting.

Pay Rate : $20.00 - $22.00 per hour, DOE

Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm

Key Responsibilities

• Review, code, and process invoices, purchase orders, and check requests in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Verify accuracy of vendor information, account numbers, amounts, and approvals before entering into the financial system.
• Reconcile statements and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal departments.
• Prepare weekly payment batches and ensure timely issuance of checks, ACH payments, and other disbursements.
• Maintain organized digital and physical records of invoices and payment documentation.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities as needed.
• Respond to vendor and department inquiries regarding payments, purchase orders, and account activity.
• Support the Finance Department with audits, reporting, and special projects.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and applicable regulations.
