The Controller / Accountant will have an exciting opportunity to join a growing management team at a critical juncture in our organization’s evolution.
Responsibilities :
- Manage all aspects of financial reporting.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- In partnership with the CEO and CFO, collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets. Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide strategic recommendations to optimize resource allocation.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards. Work with senior staff to provide insights into financial performance and trends.
- In partnership with the CFO, coordinate annual audits and tax filings with external auditors and regulatory agencies. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant requirements.
- Manage financial aspects of grants, including budget development, expense tracking, and reporting. Work closely with program managers to ensure grant funds are utilized efficiently and in accordance with donor restrictions.
- Monitor cash flow and implement strategies to optimize cash reserves and mitigate financial risks.
Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
- A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.
- Technologically savvy, with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Strong communication skills; experience effectively communicating key data.
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance personnel.
