Earning potential varies based on the level of education and years of service. The City also offers lateral hiring incentives, including a $25,000 hiring incentive, carry-over of accumulated sick and vacation leave, vacation accrual based on prior experience, and bilingual pay. The following examples describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this classification :

• Patrol assigned area to enforce laws and order
• Conduct motor vehicle accident investigations
• Investigate crimes against persons and property
• Investigates complaints involving juveniles
• Process warrants and apprehend wanted persons
• Maintain knowledge of local ordinances, state laws, and investigation techniques
• Prepare and submit required reports

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Academy. Current employment as a full-time, paid peace officer in a CA P.O.S.T. approved agency is required, along with being at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.

Additional Information

For out-of-state police officers, enrollment in the CA P.O.S.T. Waiver Process is required. Knowledge of grammar, law enforcement laws, and investigative procedures is essential.
