Position Summary :

HDL is looking for a motivated team leader with critical thinking skills to fill a Construction Project Engineer position from our Anchorage or Palmer office.

This position will be under the general direction of our Construction Administration Department Manager and will involve travel to project locations throughout Alaska.

This position typically requires working long hours, including night shifts, at the project location during the construction season.

Required Job Qualification :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • At least six years of experience on highway, bridge, or aviation construction projects.
  • Experience with construction contract administration and inspection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others involved in each project.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Desired Job Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying.
  • Engineer-In-Training certification.
  • Experience as a project engineer / resident engineer on federally funded highway, bridge, or aviation construction projects.
  • AK-CESCL or similar certification and storm water inspection experience.
  • WAQTC or similar certification and material testing experience.
  • ATTSA Traffic Control Supervisor or similar certification.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing overall administration of the construction contract and verifying that accepted work is in substantial conformance with the plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Reviewing submittals, work plans, pay estimates, schedules, and other related items.
  • Evaluating work for conformance with contract requirements.
  • Supervising project inspection staff, reviewing work products, and coordinating work efforts.
  • Providing professional interaction with clients, contractors, project staff, and the public.
  • Using critical thinking skills to manage contract changes and solve problems during construction.
  • Coordinating materials testing for acceptance and reviewing test results.
  • Travelling to locations throughout Alaska and working with a project team at the project location.

Work Environment

This position involves field and office work. While working in the field this position requires knowledge of traffic control or airfield safety measures and general construction safety requirements.

This position may be required to lift up 60 lbs. unassisted. This position involves performing work outside where inclement weather may be encountered.

When working in an office setting this position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.

This position may also be required to periodically climb, kneel or crouch, and reach with hands and arms.
