Overview
The Managing Attorney position is an exempt, management-level position. This position is responsible for managing litigated cases and other legal work in the organization's legal department, and for performing work that is predominantly intellectual and varied in character with respect to the development and implementation of legal strategy in furtherance of the organization's environmental and social justice mission. The position requires the use of professional, independent judgment to exercise discretion in matters related to the duties set forth below.
Responsibilities
The Managing Attorney will be responsible for supervising and leading the provision of legal representation to clients from disadvantaged communities in the San Joaquin and Coachella Valleys. The Managing Attorney is further responsible for refining and implementing the organization's legal strategy in partnership with the Directing Attorney, including but not limited to in relation to litigation, negotiation, and administrative advocacy, and supporting non-supervisory legal staff to further the organization's legal advocacy. The Managing Attorney is responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating employees, including Senior Staff Attorneys, Staff Attorneys, Legal Fellows, Interns, and Legal Secretaries.
