As the Clinical Director, you will serve as the key clinical and operational leader for one or more clinic locations. You will ensure the therapy team delivers high-quality patient care, meets productivity and financial targets, fosters continuous professional development, and maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Reporting to senior leadership, you will align clinical strategy with business objectives, mentor team members, optimize workflow, and act as a champion for patient-centered, outcome-driven care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Team Leadership
Provide ongoing clinical oversight and mentorship for physical therapists, PT assistants, and support staff—ensuring best practices, innovation, and professional growth.
Lead staff training and development, conduct performance evaluations, create individualized development plans, and support succession planning.
Participate in complex patient care as needed to model clinical excellence and maintain credibility with the therapy team.
Ensure all clinicians adhere to documentation, evaluation, treatment planning, and discharge protocols in line with the organization’s quality goals.
Operations & Business Management
Oversee daily operations of the clinic(s) : scheduling, patient flow, caseload distribution, staffing levels, inventory, and equipment readiness.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as visit volume, utilization, patient satisfaction scores, referral retention, revenue and margin metrics. Use data to identify opportunities and implement improvement initiatives.
Collaborate on growth strategy : support business development with referral source relationships, new service line development, community outreach, and marketing initiatives.
Ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, HIPAA, state licensure, payer rules) and maintain accreditation readiness. Establish and enforce standard operating procedures and clinical policies.
Manage budgetary.
Qualifications & Skills
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program; active state licensure required.
Minimum of 5 + years of outpatient physical therapy experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Strong leadership, coaching and team-building abilities with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
Business acumen with proven ability to manage operational metrics, budgets and workflows.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to interact with clinicians, administrative staff, referral sources and senior leadership.
