Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure.
Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus;
obligations will include research, service and / or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
The Department of Pathology in collaboration with The James Cancer Hospital have invested significant resources to build a state-of-the-art, high throughput slide-scanning facility.
The center is located at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (Ackerman Rd. site) and is among the first in the nation to combine the latest digital imaging technologies, computational image analysis and big data.
The scan center provides high-quality whole slide images for clinical, educational, and research purposes. Staffed around-the-clock, the scan center is equipped with eight Philips Ultra-Fast Scanners each of which can produce a 40x whole slide image 1-2 minutes.
The Ohio State University has digitized slides representing mostly cancer cases from 2011 - 2021 producing over 3,800,000 40X images.
Digitized clinical material is also used for daily quality control, program quality assurance, tumor boards, teaching conferences and outside pathology case consults.
The Department of Pathology also has a Center for Pathology Imaging which is a digital pathology laboratory for producing high resolution, microscope quality, whole slide images for all clinical, educational, and research needs.
Overall, this is a unique and rich resource of digital images and associated data that will be of immense value for translational research in computational pathology.
The successful candidate will have all these resources available to develop novel research programs to drive translational computational pathology, collaboration with researchers within the Comprehensive Cancer Center and The Ohio State University (OSU) as well as faculty within the Department of Pathology and several other Departments such as Radiology and Internal Medicine / Medical Oncology.
The candidate will develop a state-of-the-art computational pathology research program to complement the advanced clinical digital pathology program already implemented at OSU.
The candidate will serve as a mentor to graduate students, PhD candidates, and pathology residents and fellows. The candidate will also be expected to help create computer-assisted diagnostic tools to help create scalable precision pathology diagnostics.
Depending upon candidate qualifications, an endowed chair position may be offered in conjunction with this role.
