Summary:

The Director of Fleet Services provides leadership in managing, directing, and coordinating safe, efficient, and economical maintenance of school buses, activity buses and fleet vehicles. This position is responsible for ensuring total compliance with all aspects of legal, financial, preventive maintenance and safety regulations relating to the maintenance and repair of school buses and transportation fleet vehicles. This position is responsible for cost containment and internal controls over the transportation maintenance area. Creates, implements, and monitors business practices, processes, and systems to enable the maintenance area to operate effectively and efficiently. The Director of Fleet Services will act as the liaison with interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel to effectively manage and execute all administrative and highly evaluative maintenance and department related functions, standard operating procedures and processes.

Essential Duties:

• Manages and oversees the development of the maintenance division work plan, projects and programs. Establishes processes to monitor work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures.
• Assists in budget implementation, participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
• Develops and coordinates required and increasingly advanced professional and skilled staff training.
• Assists in the personnel process for job write ups, interviews and recommendations for the selection of, at a minimum, department maintenance staff.
• Reviews and approves performance issues and corrective action recommendation for maintenance staff.
• Assists in development and administration of transportation department goals and objectives, concentrating on the maintenance division policies, roles and responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

Minimum

* Bachelors degree in Business Management, Public Administration or related field

* Five to seven years of progressive work experience in fleet management/vehicle maintenance or diesel fleet positions

* Experience in managing multiple garage operations for 1000+ vehicles

* Experience in managing comprehensive preventative maintenance program

Desirable

* Masters degree in Transportation and Logistics Management, or related field

* Seven to ten years of experience as a manager of a large fleet and skilled trade staff.

* Experience concentrated in heavy duty diesel/passenger fleets

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

* Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 3 months of assuming the position, a valid North Carolina CDL license with appropriate endorsements.

* Must possess or have the ability to obtain the North Carolina School Bus Certification inspection certification
