The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is excited to announce an opening for an IT Assistant Director. This role is an extraordinary opportunity to be at the forefront of enhancing health systems, human performance, and precision health through technological excellence.

As the IT Assistant Director, your primary mission will be to work closely with research-focused primary investigators and their teams as well as key stakeholders in CHS and the university.

Your technical knowledge and creative mindset will be crucial in leveraging cutting-edge technologies to significantly enhance the impact of our research projects within our key focus areas.

This position involves not only leading the CHS Research Technology Core team but also mentoring them, fostering their professional development, and ensuring that their efforts align with the broader IT and research objectives of the college.

Your exceptional communication skills will be vital in bridging technical complexities with our overarching research goals.

We are looking for someone who can combine practical, hands-on experience with a strategic, big-picture approach, ensuring our research is well-supported with the necessary tools and expertise.

In this role, you will also navigate the regulatory landscape, ensuring that our groundbreaking work is compliant and secure.

You will be an integral part of a collaborative, driven team, where your ability to inspire, align, and engage is key to our shared vision.

Reporting to the Senior Director of CHS Information Technology, the IT Assistant Director will face the challenging task of planning, developing, and managing the operational functions of the CHS Research Technology Core.

Your responsibilities will extend beyond supervisory duties to strategically managing resources and driving forward our ambitious initiatives and goals.

Essential Duties Technology Assessment and Implementation : Partner with primary investigators and their research teams, Knowledge Enterprise (research arm of the university), Enterprise Technology (university IT), and the CHS Research Success Hub to recommend suitable technology solutions, manage budgets, and resolve complex multi-stakeholder challenges.

Team Leadership : Supervise and develop the CHS Research Technology Core team, including mentoring, fostering a collaborative culture, and recruitment.

IT Liaison : Facilitate access to central IT resources like High Performance Computing, and collaborate on initiatives for research data usage and accessibility.

Data Management and Compliance : Lead data management planning and ensure adherence to regulatory standards like IRB, HIPAA, GLP, GCP, and FERPA.

Evaluation and Reporting : Collaborate with the Senior Director to evaluate the Research Technology Core's effectiveness through detailed reports and data analysis.

Knowledge Base Development : Build and maintain a repository of research technology solutions and best practices, sharing this knowledge with the college community.

Technical Consulting : Provide direct technical support to researchers on complex issues, including infrastructure management and troubleshooting.

Data Security and Grant Management : Oversee data security protocols and manage the grant request pipeline, ensuring strategic alignment and compliance.

Documentation and Training : Develop and maintain documentation on research technology policies and standards, and conduct training as needed to ensure compliance.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in technology, business management, communications or related field and five years of experience leading technical teams, which include three years of supervisory / management experience;

OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and / or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of a Master’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field.

Foundation in IT infrastructure design and management, including experience in conceptualizing and implementing advanced technological frameworks including cloud and high performance computing.

Proficiency in system administration, encompassing maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting of diverse technology systems.

Ability to use metrics for effective decision-making, performance optimization, and strategic forecasting.

Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong emphasis on mentoring, team development, and facilitating professional growth.

Demonstrated knowledge of institutional and regulatory standards like IRB, HIPAA, GLP, GCP, FERPA, and experience in developing data management plans compliant with these standards.

Experience in working alongside senior IT leadership and cross-functional teams.

Exceptional communication skills are essential, especially in bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

A commitment to staying abreast of the latest trends in research technology and the ability to adapt in rapidly evolving technological landscapes.

Experience in guiding research projects, with a focus on integrating technology to meet research objectives.
