Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Newborn Screening Thyroid Manager, performs highly complex public health work in the Newborn Screening Unit. Major focus is on the identification and follow-up of infants and children with one or more of the screened conditions. Encompasses coordinating, planning, and monitoring newborn screening program and educational activities; formulating definitions, standards, and policies for effective service delivery; disseminating educational materials; and providing technical assistance to program staff and other agencies. Reviews quality assurance of PHPS I cases; coordinates program activities across teams according to business needs and performance measure goals. Supports quality assurance monitoring of Clinical Care Coordination processes and recommends actions for improvement.
Essential Job Functions
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule; performs other duties as assigned.(30%) Provides leadership in Quality Assurance (QA) and training. Acts as a lead for PHPS I staff, supports QA monitoring of daily cases, reviews cases with managers and nurse leads, and ensures consistency and accuracy of Clinical Care Coordination processes. Trains staff on newborn screening protocol and provides technical assistance. Provides back-up for PHPS I staff as needed.(25%) Coordinates health education activities for staff and customers for new and existing disorders. Evaluates training programs. Develops definitions, standards, policies, and written guidelines. Participates in workgroups; researches newborn screening disorders to support program improvement. Generates forms and correspondence using Word / Excel / Access.(25%) Monitors procedures for efficiency and analyzes data for planning and evaluation. Maintains data for reporting; coordinates data collection and reporting projects; conducts surveys and studies; analyzes operations and makes recommendations.(15%) Provides back-up for PHPS I staff. Links families with health care providers through follow-up; recommends / refers additional testing or treatment; trains providers and parents.(5%) Performs other duties including disaster response / COOP activation as assigned, may require alternate shift patterns or locations.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of local, state, and federal public health laws and regulations.Knowledge of medical terminology; educational techniques and procedures.Knowledge of database management, data analysis, and reporting (Word, Excel, Access).Strong communication, training, and staff supervision abilities.Ability to interpret public health laws and rules; maintain confidentiality; facilitate meetings and stakeholder groups; perform QA activities; manage multiple projects with priorities.Initial Screening Criteria
Experience in public health work; graduation from an accredited four-year college with major in social services, public health, or related field preferred.Experience in database management, data analysis, and reporting (Word, database, spreadsheets) preferred.Experience in teaching or training preferred.Experience in Newborn screening preferred.Additional Information
