Position Summary : The Commercial Property Accountant will be responsible for the financial management and reporting of a portfolio of commercial properties.
This role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of accounting principles related to real estate.
The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial property accounting and be able to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of commercial properties, including general ledger entries, financial statements, and variance reports.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring all financial information is accurate and up-to-date.
- Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, and accounts payable for each property.
- Prepare and analyze property budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Manage tenant billing, including rent, common area maintenance (CAM) charges, and other tenant-related financial transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of annual operating expense reconciliations and tenant CAM reconciliations.
- Coordinate with property managers and leasing agents to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations.
- Assist with external audits and provide necessary documentation and support.
- Collaborate with the finance team to improve processes and implement best practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and changes in accounting regulations.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial property accounting or real estate accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus, but not required.
